Can anyone tell me where to find the fingering notes for the irish tune ‘welcome poor paddy home’? I cant seem to find the anywhere and I would love to learn it.
Cheers

Not sure if you have a particular setting in mind, but the above should get you started. This is just the basic melody, ignoring little variations here and there.

To render the ABC to notation, paste it into the Folkinfo converter. Choose Whistle tablature in the key of D. Then download the result as a PDF.

I transcribed the Dervish recording in D (instead of A) because that sits nicely on a beginner’s whistle. To play along with the recording, you can finger these dots on an A whistle.

(But note that the actual whistle accompaniment part on the recorded arrangement is played on a D whistle in A fingering.)

There’s also a nice YT vid of the Dervish performing this live here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrTFymFo5qg

In typical Dervish-y fashion, they’ve moved it up 1/2 step to Bb. So you can play along with the vid on a Bb whistle, or tackle the actual accompaniment part on an Eb whistle.

Enjoy!

Hi,
Thanks for all the info, I will enjoy learning this tune. I have only been playing a for a couple of months so I have to get lots of practise in.
The ‘Tinwhistler’ on Youtube plays it so well. Thanks also for the links
Best regards

John,
Love the YT clip, great whistle and as always Cathy Jordan has the voice of an angel.

I tried this but got a “not found” message for the web site. http://www.folkinfo.org/songs/abcconvert.php seems to get you there and this may be the (short-term) solution for all you “But I don’t read music (or abc), yet” whistlers. Produces nice sheets of music with whistle fingerings shown for each note in the tune. As for the tune’s rhythm, you’ll have to learn that by ear…
Best wishes.

Steve

Oops, thanks Steve. I fixed the link.

If you’re interested in tackling the original whistle part from the album recording, here it is, probably minus a few diddles here and there.
