A big tionol held here in Denver… I remeber t least Lorenzo, Elbogo (in his black hat no less)and Paul Reid and most of the other folks on this board with pictures were there.
We all got together and played in the back of Collin’s Hardware store (which is where I get some of the stuff to make my reeds) and tried that plumwood flat set that Bruce Childress recently sent up for sale.
It was sweet!
But back in reality… I don’t even know of any other U-pipers in Denver. Any of you? Or do you know of any clubs within 200-300 miles that have regular meetings I could pop in on from time to time?
I just might have to organize my own UP society and have all you fine folks up here for a Mile-High Tionol! I can see the ad now… Calling all Uilleann Pipers! Come play in Denver where the air is thin and there are always a few more flakes on the ground than what fell out of the sky!
Now if I can just find a better place to play than the back of Collin’s!

I brought my pipes to Denver ONCE for a family reunion; spent more time picking up the pieces as they fell out of the stock than I did playing… talk about HIGH and DRY!

Funny, yes, but I absolutely RELY on the stuff.
True enough, good ol’ Dean Karres’ UPIL has a few names there all right.
But there’s now quite a few pipers in Colorado - many more than have signed up on his list. I get the impression from some of them that they just don’t want to be bothered, or they’re just not that mad about the music and/or the pipes in general. To each their own, anyway.
Well, I am not in Denver, but I am in Casper, WY. Talk about isolated. I do visit Denver on occasion and I am always eager to see fellow pipers when I visit. Be sure to let me know if you ever make it up north. Email me at marquard@caspercollege.edu.
