Salt Lake Uilleann Pipe Club

I’ve found several pipers in the immediate Salt Lake City area and would like to think about organizing a regular gathering to share information, tunes, headaches etc. with each other. With luck, a tionol might not be so very far away on the horizon.

So firstly, this is a call out to any and all Utah uilleann pipers, or those interested in learning the instrument: Please send me an email so that I can start to compose a group list and see what sort of interest lies out there.

For those of you who are either members in another group or perhaps have started one yourselves, do you have any advice as far as things to do and/or not to do that might help to make this all a bit more successful?

Thanks all!

Brian~

Brian,
Count me in, and hats off for taking the initiative on this! A piper’s life in the desert may get somewhat easier after all…

One suggestion: rather than a Salt Lake-centric handle, how about something like “The Intermountain Pipers…” whatever. We might even get some crazed pipers from as far afield as Evanston or Elko to show up. Mmmmmm, Basque potluck…

Check your e-mail.

Cheers,
Mark

LOL! I JUST had an awesome basque meal out in Elko with Stonecircle a couple of weeks ago - too funny! Sounds great Mark. I’ll watch the ol’ inbox.

Brian,

Check this previous thread for some good suggestions:

Better yet, come to the So.Cal. Tionól and see how it’s done in person (that’s Nov. 21-23 in San Juan Capistrano)

I was at the Denver gathering, but alas! Won’t be able to make it out to So. Cal. this year. I’ve looked at a lot of other sites and groups etc. for some general ideas. I’m not looking to start a huge organization with world-wide ramifications like NPU, but just get our drones in the door so to speak.

Thanks though

Nice one Larry… that’s the weekend before thanksgiving, Nov 21, 22 & 23 everyone

Did I mention that KEVIN ROWSOME and BENEDICT KOEHLER will be there (not to mention THE Patrick D’Arcy)

… and pipemaker Michael Hubbert!

Just steering us back to the original topic here.

I’ve gotten solid contact information for six of us here, and four more are unconfirmed. We also have four more out-of-state but still within an easy few hours drive who may be able to make it out to the occasional gathering! Any other Utah area pipers interested as well as those who perhaps don’t play but may wish to learn more about them…drop me an email!

Brian~

We are confirmed at eight players in the valley now and still growing it seems! With luck, we will be holding our first meeting sometime in January after the mess of the holidays is over and done with. Any who read the list here and might be interested in attending are welcome to contact me via email and I will make sure we stay in contact as per future events.

All the best!

Brian~

You could always call it the Uncomphagre Uilleann group… See that way you have two words that most people spell wrong, and have the slightest idea how to pronounce.

Shoot me an Email when you have some stuff going on, I might come over to have a looksee.

We are confirmed for our January meeting with Bill Tiernan as special guest piper and reed-maker! Bill will be coming from Colorado to join us for this and I promised him a grand session after the workshops during the day. Still waiting to hear from several folks, but all in all it’s shaping up wonderfully!

See everyone therre!
