Sessions in Salt Lake City?

Hi to any Utah-based pipers out there.

I’m going to be in Salt Lake City for a few days on business from Tuesday March 8th until Sunday 13th. Just wondering if anyone can recommend a good session pub in town? I won’t be bringing the pipes unfortunately (I’d be afraid the change in weather conditions would land them in hospital) but it’d be nice to hear some local musicians. Any leads much appreciated.

Try contacting Brian Lee at brian@uilleann.org

The Salt Lake City Piper’s Club outght to know about such things and Brian is running the show there… or so I assume.

Brian has already provided this information. There is a forum on this board called the City Guide. You will find sessions in Utah listed there. Here is the link: http://chiffboard.mati.ca/viewtopic.php?t=24993&sid=0f43656aeaed0e5e37fd98898bb22b4e

.. oh yeah, I forgot. I ought to browse that page sometime.

MAN! The timing isn’t the best, but I bet several of us could be talked into getting together for some tunes and all at some point. You miss the Monday night sessions by one measly day on each end of your travel dates, BUT you may be able to make the second Sunday of the month gathering at a local coffee shop called Cup of Joe. It generally gets going around 10:30 am.

More info can also be found on the SLPC site:

I’ll PM you with my contact info John, so feel free to give me a call when you’re in town.

All the best!

Thanks to all for the info

I got your PM Brian: I’ll drop you a reply in the near future!.

Hi John,
Like Brian said I’m sure we can get some folks together, Im definitely game and I will be in town over the weekend as well. If not the session Sunday at Cup 'o Joe then maybe Fri. or Sat. if it fits your schedule. Are you staying near downtown Salt Lake?

P.S. It would be great if you did decide to bring your pipes, although I know travelling with them is a problem. I would not worry about the climate change too much this time of year, the relative humidity is probably at it’s seasonal high right now. In my experience the reed will adjust after a couple of days playing.

I’ll PM ya’ with my contact info…

~John.

Guys

I’m just back in the office having landed home this morning. I had a great night meeting you guys of the Salt Lake City Pipers Club last Wednesday. Wonderful to meet such fine and welcoming pipers: Brian, John and Mark and co.

Brian: thanks for arranging the evening and getting the various musicians together: it was great to be able to have a few tunes, and the Guinness wasn’t half bad either!

Mark: thanks for the spin on your Gallagher C pipes: absolutely beautiful set!

I hope the St. Partick’s Day Parade was as boozy as anticipated!

Lets hope we can do it again, maybe on this side of the pond next time!

Keep up the great work: some really impressive piping going on there

Go raibh mile maith agaibh!

Hiya John!

It was great meeting you, and we enjoyed the tunes very much. Hope that Park City was a good time as well, and that the powder made for decent snowboarding. You missed a honker of a session last night, but next time you can plan your trip around a Monday eve. As the Beverly Hillbillies say, ‘ya’ll come back now, y’hear?’ I’m hopeful Dublin will work out for me next summer, I’ll keep you posted.

Cheers,
Mark

What more can be said. Dave (the pub owner) was most pleased to have us show up unannounced as it were, he’s still talking about it actually… Great times. Brilliant playing. Incredible craic!

Hope to meet up again sometime John. Maybe we could start with a Salt Lake Piping Club - Dublin branch office or something…

Cheers!

Bri~
