Salt Lake City Tionol - June 9th - 11th

Attention fellow obsessives! We are most pleased to announce

The 2006 Salt Lake City Piper’s Club Tionol **** ****
June 9, 10, 11, 2006

featuring the talents of

David Power and Seth Gallagher .

We’re thrilled to have the esteemed Mr. Power back for a second year in a row, and before he forsakes these shores for his new permanent posting as Ship’s Piper with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. This year Mr. Gallagher will add his consummate piping and reedmaking / pipe tweaking skills to the mix. You Rocky Mountain / Southwest types in particular, here’s your chance to consult with a reed guru.

As for the rest of you, don’t be such a quiver of blouses - you can put paid to all that fishmongery you’ve heard about desert / high altitude piping. Your reeds will work just fine here, so well in fact that you’ll sound just like one of those Patsy Touhey 78 recordings.

We’re still sorting the details of the schedule, lodging and registration process, but will post details shortly. Meanwhile, if yis have any questions, please PM me. Any indications (however tentative) of possible attendance would help us plan ahead and be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Mark

Things are fleshing out nicely for June. Waiting to hear back from Mark here (as the bugger’s off in Ireland and France right now!) and we’ll get the registration forms finalized etc.

Don’t miss this one you guys! The beer’s quite decent here too - as David will attest I imagine!

See you in June!

Be-bump-a-loo-ah. Registration forms for the June tionol are up on the SLPC Piper’s Club website at http://uilleann.org/Events-Tionols.html, as well as an outline of the weekend’s events, including a recital and house session on Sat. night, and concert on Sunday night featuring David and Seth. On Sunday afternoon, Seth and David will dispense reedmaking and pipemaking insights in the well-equipped workshop of John Ward in SLC.

Altogether Seth and David are more good fun than any craic-head could ask for, so we hope to see some of you there. If anyone would like airport pick-up or needs sorting with accommodations, please let us know. We’re hoping a certain Idaho flute doctor will also come down for some piping instruction and bring a table-full of flutes with him for us to noodle on as well.

As you were.

Last year’s concerts were outstanding.

This year should be every bit as fun and more as last! It’d be great to see some of the others here if you all can make it. Cheers!

Brian~

Hard to believe it’s just 8 days away - how time flies when you least expect it to! How many of you lot are planning on coming out to meet Seth and David?? Gonna be a great weekend!

Brian~

I guess I will be the first to comment on the tionol weekend, briefly—
The weather- wonderful (a bit windy at times)
Highland pipes-Loud
Company- very pleasant
Seth Gallagher- great teacher, great piper, reed whisperer, should move to Utah, does strange things with waffles, ice cream, hot fudge and whipping cream.
David Power- What can I say? He’s not just another pretty face. When he’s playing it’s hard to tell where he ends and the pipes start. I don’t know how long it would take to tire of listening to him play, it’s certainly longer than a weekend.
Seth and David, twin brothers of different mothers. Makes for an awesome weekend!!!

PS-Thanks Mark,John,Brian-The guys that make it happen. U ROCK!

Glad yoos guys had a blast!

It was definitely a great weekend. I am just disappointed that our plot to ‘chain David and Seth to John’s garage and make them play and make pipes in Utah forever’ was foiled. We would have got away with it too if it wasn’t for those meddling kids.
