TOONS

Ok Folks I have totally lost it!

For those who have children still in elementary school and have cable tv then you can relate.

There is a show on Nickalodian…(spelling?)
called Sponge Bob Square Pants… I am equally as crazy about it as my children.

If you are totally in the dark about this program then check out Nick.com

Any ways… to show you how far I will go to impress my kids I am trying to locate a tune played every now and then on the show.

It is the sea chantey tune played when Mr. Krabs is on the scene. Unfortunately you never know when it is going to come on and it is only less than a minute long. And I am horrible learning tunes by ear.

I have started a new quest…I have searched all through the nick.com site… I have just emailed a sponge bob square pants fan club… and now I am writing you folks.

Call me looney… but this is driving me crazy. Parts of the tune is sticking in my head, at least the bounce and rhythm of it.

I wish I had the gift of learning by ear.
I need the notation and the recording to get it down in my head. OH WELL…

Perhaps I should just grow up and stop watching toons with my kids… NAH!

I just thought of a new B-attitude.

Blessed be the one that retains a child-like heart for they shall stay young forever.

Laura

Hi Laura,

I too watch Sponge Bob on occasion (I’ve got a 5 yr. old…). They do have some really catchy sounding trad. Irish music playing in the background quite often, and I’ve wondered what the tunes were and who was playing them, etc…

Let us know if you find out any details.

-Brett

PB&J Otter on Disney have some great irish sounding tunes on it too.

LW

I watch Sponge Bob on Saturday mornings, it’s actually a pretty clever cartoon sometimes and I think I know of which song you’re talking about. The opening theme song sounds like it has a whistle in it too. Sorry that I can’t answer your question though, just thought I’d add my two cents.
Hope you find what you’re looking for!
Imagine peace,
Sara

I think it is actually a sea shanty. Try this link.

AARRGG…It looks like I am not the only one that owns the cd to sponge bob…

Hey CraigMc what do you think of the Pre-Hibernation-Panteram Tune?.. Jelly Fishin’…Jelly Fishin’
Unfortunately the tune I am looking for is not the Spongebob Square Pants Theme song.
It’s also not Blow the Man Down.

Oh how I wish it could be that easy.
The tune that I am refering to is an instrumental piece played on pennywhistle. And is always played when Mr. Krabs is scheming a way of making money or saving his money.

I am still waiting for a reply from the fan club. (which I have not joined)

The next possible step is recording the shows and going from there.

It’s nice to know there are other fans of SpongeBob out there.

Hey Laura -

I am not a Spongebob fan but I happen to have a minidisc recorder and two episodes of SBSP about to start on NIck, so I am recording for you. It would help if you let me know if the song is on these episodes. Hope to hear from you!

hmm…tvguide said it would start at 5 but something else appears to be on. If it starts I will catch it.

EDIT - it’s on, just was late. If I end up wanting to watch this show I am holding you responsible! hehe

Mister Crabs never made an appearance, but his restaurant did, and there was a whistle song in the background, so in case that was the song you meant I snagged it. Here you go - save it if you want it, everyone, because it won’t be up by next week.

Does anyone know the optimum MP3-Saving settings for Goldwave?

After messing with it in making a recording, I am pretty sure it is “drop on the deck, and FLOP like a fish” =)

Oh, my mom would be proud of me now, hehehe

I LOVE SPONGEBOB!!!

falls over

ahem

The theme song is actually just “Blow the Man Down” with the words changed around and the tune modified a little bit.

In the episode where Spongebob and Squidward get turned into snails ("I Was a Teenage Gary) and they and spongebob’s pet snail Gary are sitting on the fence meowing a song, that’s also “Blow the Man Down”

They use a lot of sea shanties on that show, I don’t think they are all definitly Irish…

Don’t you just wish you could play your NOSE like spongebob? Then you could save all that money you spend on whistles.

(ps. I’m pretty sure it’s FLUB like a fish. Not flop or glub…)

Heh…I now have “I was a teenage Gary” on minidisc if anyone wants it. It’s getting wiped in a few days.

I still think it’s Flop because it rhymes with Drop, and fish flop when they are out of water. A flub is a mistake and a glub is the sound you make when you drown. But I think I had better stop analyzing the thing

Hi Laura,

Try this site http://www.contemplator.com and click on Songs of the sea. It has a hundred or more sea shanties with the words as well as the music. Even if you don’t find the one you want the site has lots of good music and downloadable midi files.

Best wishes, Tom

If it’s called “I Was a Teenage Gary” does that mean that Spongebob is only supposed to be a teenager? I thought he was older than that… I sound as though I’m talking about an actual person, don’t I? Yeesh.

I think it was “Drop on the deck and FLOP like a fish…” but I don’t know for a fact.
Peace,
Sara

My whole family loves spongbob! In “I was a teenage Gary” Spongbob turns into a snail, after being injected with snail plasm meant for his pet snail Gary, the name is a takeoff on “I was a teenage werewolf”. We also own the spongebob CD , my personal favorite is the F.U.N. song!..I’m watching way too much kids programing…

THAT’S IT!!! THAT’S IT!!!

ARG, ARG, ARG, ARG, ARG, YOU DID IT MATEY!

As I am posting this SBSP has just came on called “Untied Shoes”.

Oh and the tune just played… I guess I stand corrected… the tune is played when in the Crusty Krab.

I don’t care how many times I watch this show. It always manages to get a giggle out of me. Loop DE Loop !

You said you used a mini cd recorder?
Hmmm…me thinks I need to invest in one of them.

What brand name did you use? Sony?

I have a birthday coming up…I guess I can pass on another whistle for now.

Does anyone find that tune familiar?

I am going to try to figure out how to use the audio clean up lab program I have and take the voices out so I can hear the tune better.

Oh, and Beth…pre-apologies if you find yourself hook-line and sinkered into SBSP.

Thanks Tom, I now have that site in my favorites. Looking forward to checking it out more thoroughly later.

Laura

Hey Laura!

Glad I could help! It would figure that that song was played 5 minutes into the first episode and I ended up taping an hour and a half of it grin

About MD recorders, I am replying to your email. If anyone else would care to see a new thread on MD recorders I would be happy to participate. BTW the buzz on the recording was not from my MD it was from the audio out / headphone jack on the TV. I found this out when I plugged only headphones into the tv.
