In another topic rich correctly pointed out how negativity and can affect newcomers who may not understand the true spirit of this place. I beleive that if an off topic title has to be at the top of the list, this one is as good as any. It is cute and fuzzy while intriguing. I lifted it from my kid’s veggie tales video, were it is used as a horrible punishment. Just like some of these negative threads, tickling can be fun at first but cronic exposure can become torture. That’s my Meg’s worth.

AAHHH, Veggietales…
I love those guys!
Anybody seen my hairbrush?
Speaking of kids videos, if you are familiar with veggie tales, you must be familiar with the Spot videos. Got one from the library to help my daughter with her spanish lessons and they use whistle for the music in it.
I have not heard of zis spot video.
tell me more.
P.S. You have got to check out the Pirates who don’t do anything and the cheeseburger song.

Back in my ECE days I used to enjoy looking at these books with the toddler crew. Many years ago on a road trip to Nova Scotia with the family I was delighted to find that there are Gaelic versions of some of these books as well.

P.S. The subject line brings to mind one of my daughter’s favorite movies, Labyrinth. The place of punishment there was “The Bog of Eternal Stench”.

What’s up with all these new kid’s shows?
Pfft.
ps. I’m 17 and I still love Mr.Roger’s Neighborhood and Sesame Street. Does that make me a freak?

Wait till you have kids!
This is what is big:
Dora the Explorer
Dexter’s Laboritory
The new Justice league
Bob the builder
Basicly anything on cartoon network
PB&J otter
Rollie Pollie Ollie
I like all of these, it sometimes makes me late because I watch them with my kids before I go to work.
Please steer clear of the Barney (I wish he’d go the way of smoochie)
Tellitubbies is awful too.
I can neither confirm nor deny that any of the above play the whistle or have anything to do whith whistling in any form. Although I think Dora the explorer may.

You know…Fred Rogers has taken a fair amount of dissing. There was that National Lampoon audio parody “Mr. Robert’s Neighborhood” which was admittedly pretty funny. But as a former early childhood educator that guy was really tuned into what preschoolers need to understand and hear. I think he is pretty awesome. Hated the “operas” they used to feature but heck I’m a musical snob anyhow
Loved the bits he would show about important issues like “how they make crayons” or “how saxaphones are built”. Great stuff.
Cheers,
David

It is easy to give up the video drug once your through the “withdrawal” phase. ![]()
Okay…truth be known my kids get to watch TV on weekends. But only videos and DVDs that are pre-approved. They haven’t seen commercial TV in ages. But the number of books they get into…

Does that include irritability, the shakes and mummbling incoherently? I experienced these symptoms an a weeklong fishing trip to the north woods last fall. (I was in a boat fishing when the trade towers fell, we were completely out of the loop when all that was going on - no media)

Well that was me going through “loss of Star Trek anxiety” but I survived ![]()

Reminds me of Danny Devito in “Mathilda”. Incredibly funny stuff!

YOU GAVE UP STAR TREK?
are ye daft?
It’s bloody STAR TREK! for cryin’ out loud.
You’re tougher than me, I’ll bet you eat right and excercise too, don’t ya?
All that clean livin will catch up to you one day. ![]()
Sorry to disillusion you but I’m over 40 over weight and have plenty of grey in the beard
And I eat meat and don’t give too much of a squat if my veggies are organic or no.

P.S. I am starting to catch up on Voyager episodes that broadcast very late on Sunday evenings. One of these years I’ll catch up on all the DS9 episodes missed as well. ![]()
I like Dexter’s Laboratory! I watched that last summer while I was baby-sitting. Dee-dee is awesome. Also, though I hate to admit that I like the “new” kids’ shows as well, I LOVE Spongebob Squarepants.
Whew! You had me WORRIED!
Look, if you are a real TREKKIE you have to see the new one - “Enterprise” It takes place between present time and the other series and kind of fills in the gaps.
Seriously I have tried to read more lately. I got through all the “left behind” books and got into this “Horatio Hornblower” kick after watching the mini-series I read all 11 novels by C.S. Forester.I drove my wive crazy - I kept talking like an 18th century english sailor.(couldn’t help it)I have an anoying habit of picking up accents or dialects.
You should have heard me after I saw scar face a week ago. It was awful.
I love that accent Dexter has, it cracks me up - I’m such an over grown kid and this is so not having anything to do whith whistles.

And, if you like Veggie Tales (or Star Trek for that matter…), check out their other series: “3-2-1 Penguins!” There are three out now, and are a real hoot! The latest is called “The Amazing Carnival of Complaining.” Really clever and fun stuff!!
