I can’t resist
what’s a “tubafor”?

I’ll have to lo0k into the penguin thing.
thanks.

I’m just so tickled whith myself for getting everyone off on a tangent that I have to play “linda Ritchman” here. The tin whistle is not a whistle and is not necessarily tin - talk amongst yourselves I’m getting verclempt.

Ya know, like when ya go to the lumber yard and ask, “I need five tubafors and three forbafors.”

Great answer! That’s exactly right…

Cal

What’s a tubafor? Its for hitting those really, really low notes.

ba-dum-ching!

Look, if you are a real TREKKIE you have to see the new one - “Enterprise”…

Well we do get UPN without cable so I haven’t missed one yet! I like the “retro” aspect as well as the change of pace in theme music. Where I had lived in western MA there was absolutely no tv reception so it was cable or no tv.

Here’s where we can get into a debate.
I really do not care for the theme music to enterprize. It reminds me of cheers or something. I guess I am spoiled to the big sound of the generations theme song.

The show is interesting. Do you think Tapal will ever lighten up like Spock?

Laura

I think this is the first series without any input from Gene Rodenberry. That’s why TNG, Voyager and DS9 had the same feel.
It is funny how the characters are formulaic. Tapal is just 7 of 9 with pointy ears.

I don’t know a lot about music and it was amazing to me when I saw the scores for - I think it was TNG - how it was two B flat clarinets weaving in and out that created that sound.

I got the sheet music for “Captain Picard’s Air” where he plays the Resikan Flute from the Italian site on the webring. I’m not sure if it’s exactly the same but it sounds close.
It is very easy to play and I have experimented with adding my own embelishments.

Speaking of Spongebob Squarepants, that little yellow guy cost me my sweetone whistle. I showed a friends son how to play a simplified version of the theme song (the last nose notes only). Not only did he pick it up right away, he played it for the entire day and I ended up giving him the whistle. It all worked out as I then “had” to replace it. (With a Dixon!!)

ROFL!

I have to agree on Veggie Tales. My 5-year-old loves it, and so do I. It’s smart, Christian-based, and the animation is great. We have the Esther video, where the Peony Brothers (the meanest peas in Persia) and Haman get sent to the Island of Perpetual Tickling. Too cool!

I can neither confirm nor deny that any of the above play the whistle or have anything to do whith whistling in any form. Although I think Dora the explorer may.

My three-year-old daughter is a Dora lover, too. And I CAN confirm that one episode has to do with whistling–the “magic flute” episode features an end-blown flute. It has five holes instead of six, but it’s pretty close.

I also harbor much hatred towards Barney and Teletubbies and will not let my kids watch those.

Oh, and Sam–I’m 26 and I still like Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers, too!

(As well as being a HUGE “Star Trek” fan. Though I have to say I am still waiting for “Enterprise” to get its “sea legs”…I don’t think it’s very good yet, though I faithfully watch it every week. I’m giving it time because it took all the others at least a year to get some really good characterization, plots, stories, etc.)

Happy watching, all (and reading–reading is my first love).

Come to think of it you are right Tapal reminds me a bit of 7 of 9. My 18 year old son would disagree. He thinks 7 of 9 is hot.

I did not realize that enterprise was not
overseen by Gene Rodenberry. Is he still alive? That’s why it does not have the same appeal then.

It’s like when Jim Henson died.
Although I loved the movie Muppets From Space.

There must be some Muppet fans out there. Any reruns of the Muppet show going on?
I am looking for a song that I saw, I believe it was on the Muppet show but I could be wrong and it could of been on Seasame Street.

It’s a country western song and I think the Muppet female singer was supposed to look like Dolly Parton. (spelling?)

Anywho, it was a song about the different ways people laugh. It was hilarious!
I found myself observing how different people laugh. Quite entertaining!!!

I must have that song. It would be tons of fun to do in a classroom!

Laura

Gene Rodenberry has passed away. :frowning:

I agree with Cees. I keep waiting for Enterprise to get better. Most of the other series got better after the first season. Except DS9. I think it just got weirder…

Gene Roddenberry died, oh, three years ago, was it?. Oh, well. It was getting a bit to optimistic for me anyway.

sigh…this is my kind of thread…VeggieTales and Star Trek all rolled into one…kind of like the USS ApplePies, right?

And Hey, David, did you say a trip to Nova Scotia? I love NS! Of course, I’ve lived here for almost 30 years! Egad, that makes me feel old!

Deb

I went on a Muppet search. Did not find the song I was looking for but found something else. It’s amazing how many celebrities appeared on that show.

http://vr.ncsa.uiuc.edu/BS/Muppets//episode_guide_ms.html

I felt like I was tripping through time.

In the 4th season I stumbled across this…
to bring this thread a little closer to on topic.

Muppet Sports- Bagpipe eating
(‘you can’t eat that bagpipe! It’s not__dead__yet! There’s nothing more dangerous than a wounded bagpipe!’)

I am trying to remember if I saw that episode before. Hmmmm…

Hey! you back that bus up to the barn.

That’s startin’ to sound like negativity and we won’t have that here thank you very much

The more I think about it, I think I need to change my user name. Maybe I could sell the naming rights to a corporate sponser. Maybe I could work myself into the marketing plan for the new clark whistle. No?

It was more than three years ago. He died like in 92 or 93. Almost a decade ago.
