Touw,
Relax and be patient. There are a hundred or more people here that will tell you from personal experience that Thom’s a good guy. A day or two for an email response is nothing worth getting concerned over.
Jef
I have dealt with Thom at the WhistleShop several times and always with complete satisfaction. Rest assured you’ll be treated well.

I too have had excellent service with my orders.
It was, however, over the phone and with a credit card. I placed an order one day and it was shipped the next.
I also ordered a Dixon tunable brass slide from them that took 2 weeks to get from Tony. They let me keep adding things to the invoice up till the day it shipped to save postage. (I’m glad it only took 2 weeks, no telling how much I would have added if it took longer!)

Like everone’s said, thewhistleshop.com is reliable. I’ve ordered from the twice and didn’t have any problems. They take a few days (they’re not amazon.com, okay?) but you’ll get your stuff, so don’t worry.
I have done a good deal of business with Tom over the past two years, both on-line and over the phone, and he and the service were consistently excellent. About a month or so ago, though, I sent him an e-mail requesting an informational response on some whistles, and I never recieved any response. That was surprising. I don’t know whether e-mails that are not definitive purchases are just not answered or whether there is some specific problem of late. I got what I needed and made my purchases elsewhere.
In any event, since you made a specific purchase, just call and talk to Tom.
Regards,
Philo
About two weeks ago, I ordered a Dixon whistle online from the Whistle Shop. I got an email a day later saying that the whistle I ordered was not in stock and that they thought that it would be a couple of weeks before they got there next shipment. A few days ago I sent them an email asking for status. The next day, I received a reply saying that they had just gotten an update a couple days earlier from Tony with an estimated time that Tony would be sending out the whistles.
I have ordered from them before without a problem and so far, I am satisfied with the way they are treating my current order.
No complaints here.
Same here. I can’t believe you’d have a problem with the Whistle Shop.

I’ve had great experiences with them, too. If you aren’t getting any replies to your email, try giving them a call on the phone to see what’s up. I’ve had things get lost in the email vacuum before (but not from the Whistle Shop) when ordering online.

So far I’ve ordered about…how many stuff from his shop…?.. hmm, clean forgot ![]()
I think his responses are not as slow as that of some ‘seriously busy’ makers (whom you’d rather call them up, or pay them a wee visit yourself)!
I beleive Thom’s having a very hard time having to manage thousands of incoming emails every day, so it’s not unusual for him to reply to someone taking at least two or more days…sometimes you have to wait.
All I can say is I have made nearly a dozen orders from Thom over the years (books, whistles, CDs). I’ve been very happy and always recommend Thom to folks that are just getting started in the whistle thing.
Thom’s opperation is small (not Amazon) and most issues folks have had over the years have not been about Thom’s service (for example: shipping company problems). I do know Thom bends over backwards for customer service.
Right before Thom opened his internet store front, I was contemplating a whistle store like what he was doing. I’m glad he beat me to it because I think he does it better than I could have. The whistling community is much better off with Thom being there than anyone else.
Cheers, and I hope your problem is resolved soon.

Thom has a toll free phone number. Why in the world would one not call him instead of posting that message to the 3,000 or so C & F members (and potential customers) who stop in here from time to time? For the past four years or so I have been (and remain) a big fan of Thom Larson and the Whistle Shop. He has always been a fair and square vendor plus a good source of advice and recommendations, regardless of the price range I have indicated an interest in. I had the pleasure of speaking with Thom this morning as a follow-up to an e-mail of general inquiry (about other-than-Generation F whistles, it so happens) I had sent him last night. The first thing he said was that he was aware of my e-mail, but had not had a chance to read it yet, which I can understand because it was a long e-mail and had some attachments.
I have yet to receive an order from Thom that–in addition to what was ordered–did not have some little token of his appreciation for my business. I have probably referred a dozen people to him and have never heard anything but good stuff about their interaction with him.
My best to all, vendors and consumers alike,
Tom D.

During the last year I’ve ordered scores of whistles and books and CDs from Thom. He’s always been reliable. Last week I got an order and simply changed my mind about what I wanted. I sent an email asking if I could return it for a refund. In roughly 14 hours I got an email reply from him saying to return the merchandise (close to one hundred dollars worth of stuff) for a refund. I have to think it was some kind of mistake that he didn’t reply to you quickly.

Hello touw.
It seems that you and some others on the board do not realize the most whistle sales company are a small business. Maybe the owner and one or two employees. There is no huge bank of computer with people sitting there waiting to take orders. Most small business owners put in 100 plus hours a week and grab a day off when it is possible and that’s usually every couple of weeks. They have families and lives and often when the business is young they are doing something else to supplement their income.
Please in the future when dealing with a small business bare in mind that they are just that.
Now you could always buy from a Mega Business and find out that they have that big order department but just can never ship you the right product at 3 times the cost.
Deep breaths, Touw, deep breaths. That’s what I recommend. I ordered my Kerry Low D from The Whistle Shop and was on pins and needles with excitement waiting for it. Turns out it wasn’t in stock, and I had to wait an extra couple of days.
But let me tell you, the wait made it all the sweeter. When I finally held that whistle in my hands, all memory of the wait just disappeared.
It’ll happen, friend. It’ll happen. (-;
