GR2531 Uilleann Practice Chanter
The very first ever Irish Practice Chanter, Mouthblown Made in United Kingdom.
Price: £ 82.00 Pounds Stg (€122.00 Euro)
Ya, I got one of those before I got my O’Grady half set. At first it seemed like a good notion (being less expensive and availbale for immeadiate gratification) but in retrospect it was $200 that I would much rather have right now to buy a new pair of tele skis this winter !
I think that if you are already proficient on the pipes you can squeeze a toon out on these practice pipes. but for the beginner it is frustrating to say the least. On the positive side, it at least serves the purpose of driving teenagers out of the house, infuriating the spouse and generally terrifying house-hold pets
Note that blowing by mouth is nearly impossible to get any notes in the second octave (I have the bag model).
I had the benefit of trying one of his injection-molded chanters recently and it was excellent. in fact I’m going to order one ASAP ($275).
If you can’t afford bag and bellows, don’t be shy about making your own, it’s not rocket science like pipe/reed design. I have made a couple with only rudimentry tools. Check out the following links for info on making your own.
