Hi Chiff and Fipplers,

Well the 1900 vintage Joseph Wallis whistle arrived today. It is indeed as anticipated in the key of G, and about 2/3 the size of my Copeland brass D, looks like someone put the Copeland in the dryer on high.

It’s suprisingly mellow and pleasant sounding, in tune with itself, and fairly consistent across the octaves.

What fun there will be had next time I have an opportunity to bring this out at a session as a novelty act… :slight_smile:

Sounds pretty good - and looks like its in even better shape than he eBay photos suggested. All in all, a pretty good deal, I’d say.

Have you any experience with a modern high G, i.e. Generation? How does the old-timer compare?

I’ve tried a friends Generation G, its much more shrill and painful to listen to than the old brass whistle… This one is pretty mellow overall, doesn’t get annoying until you get to the upper end of the second octave…

The whistle really sounds great–I really liked it. Thanks for the great clip! You should put it on Clips & Snips, if you haven’t already.

You should email that link to the person who sold you the whistle. If it were me, I would love to here what it sounded like.
