Generation low G

Well a friend gave me a heads up that a local second hand shop had an old whistle for sale but was unplayable and knowing I am interested in all things whistle related gave me a call. Well I wasted no time and was at the shop within the hour looking at an old Generation in G. I snapped it up and brought it home. Spent 10 minutes straightening the blade and hey presto, a fabulous whistle. I dug out my old Hohner in G to compare whistles and it is an exact replica. I knew that Hohner had used a prototype that a fellow in South Africa had approached them with (so the story goes) to copy but, forgive me if this is old news for some, I never knew it was an exact replica of the Generation even down to the hole positions and slightly out of tune notes

If I had to choose one it would be the Generation

Very interesting, Ian. Thanks for posting this. Now if we could only convince Generation to extend their current line downward once again.

It’s not one of those old ones made with lead, is it?

BTW- I think Jerry makes a Gen in G using a Bb head. I could be wrong, but pretty sure I remember reading that. I have one in A that’s nice.

Wow nice find. How does it sound?

No not lead at all.
It sounds fantastic actually. It needed a bit of tweeking and is probably the quietest whistle I have heard in G but a surprisingly solid bottom note and a very sweet upper register.
