Woo hoo!!! My dad just told me that I (we) can go to St. Louis!!! It will just be me, my dad, and my brother. They won’t take the workshop, but I’m going to. So here’s the question…I’m assuming everybody here is going to take the whistle class…So, which one are you going to? Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced? I don’t know if I’ll do Intermediate or Advanced (I don’t even know if I am good enough to be in Advanced, but my dad keeps telling me “You’re good enough!”) Anyways…If the majority of you are going to be in one class, it might help me make my decision. I probably need to send the form off in the next couple of days. I’m excited!! See ya’ there!
I don’t know whether I’m intermediate
or advanced, either–but I do think
that Grey Larsen is an extremely
good teacher, the best I’ve ever
worked with. He is exceptionally
good about ornamentation. So that
may determine my choice.
To everybody that’s going…One of the fiddle players at our monthly jam went to St. Louis last year…The way he talked, I’ll be the youngest one there. I’m 14, so I’ll probably stick out. I’ll have my dad and my brother with me (both really tall). I play fiddle, whistle, and concertina. If you recognize me at the sessions or the workshops, come and say hi!
I’ll be there, but I’m registered for the flute workshop w/ John Skelton. Only an intermediate/advanced class is offered, so it may be way over my head, but it’s the only chance I have for live instruction. My goal is to learn as much as I can without holding the rest of the class back.
You might or might not be the youngest there. In the intermediate workshop I took there were two or three kids younger than you. No one gave it a thought. In fact, I think everyone thought it was pretty cool they were there.
My guess is, your major challenge will be to avoid looking too smug when you find out you are further along than a lot of us old guys.
See you there,
–Jay

Ok…you will be the 14 year old in the advanced and I will be the middle aged redhead in the beginners class. You will spot me…because everyone will be running away from my squeeks!!!
THE Tional was GREAT. I met Jason ( a member here). We were together in the intermediate whistle class. We spotted Brent as the classes were getting out. We YELLED…HEY BRENT. after a COUPLE of times…he looked. THEN of course we EMBARRASSED The heck out of him saying HIGH. Of course …its NOT hard to embarrass a fourteen year old lol.
AFTER the workshops…the Kardshark was spotted at the LOCAL music store… ONE guess what he was checking out. YEP whistles. The question is…WHAT DID YOU GET??? HMMMMMMMMMMMM ???
