Speaking of hunting...

I’m looking for “eggcarton” foam to reline a Winchester brand double rifle safe for a friend. Finding a local supplier is proving difficult, and for an ignoramus like me, knowing what kind of specs to refer to while shopping online is impossible without sources saying “Line your gun case with this!”. So far, they don’t.

Is anyone familiar with these waters and can tell me what standard specs I want for this application? Thanks in advance.

Have you check an upholstery supply shop? You should be able to get different density foams from them. I get mine from pet supply stores.

This is a big start, thanks. Pet supply stores, indeed?

Okay, I’ve got a bit of where, and now I need a bit of what. For a gun case lining, not just any density or height of the foam will do, I take it. Specs. I need specs.

I don’t know we never use nothing that fancy, we keep everything in socks or flat case foam that you shape to fit. Our gun safes, inside the walls of the house, have no foam just felt, same with our whistle and recorder cases.

I’d think that yer overly concerned.

I wouldn’t know about that, and anyway it ain’t my gun case, in which instance I probably wouldn’t be as picky. One does like to get things done up right, after all.

Next.

Is this a case or a safe? I’m not aware of using foam in a safe. If it is a case you’ll likely want something firm high density or use pick n’ pluck foam of the type used in camera cases. Look for case foam or check with these guys http://www.brownells.com/might even get a discount for the NRA ta boot.

Sorry; I keep using the words interchangeably. It’s a case, but somehow I recall it was called a safe. Which, BTW, I definitely remember being a bit confused about, because it sure looked like a case to me. I figured there was something arcane in firearms enthusiasts’ nomenclatures about this stuff that I wasn’t getting a handle on.

So, case…it’s a case.

Check with Pelican, they sell replacement foam for their cases, match one to the Winchester case? http://www.casesbypelican.com/foam.htm

Thanks; but my friend wants the “eggcarton” topography for the foam, so I’ll be seeing to it that he gets what he asked for.

At this rate, that will not be any time soon.

They have the egg-crate foam they’re just very convoluted in their description.

Oh, okay. I had to wade thru all that “Pick ‘n’ Pluck” to find it. And no product photos. That really builds my confidence. Not.

Still, I’m interested in the pet supply store option, if you’d tell me more about that. If I can buy locally, that’s my first choice; it’s kind of important to me. And frankly, I detest shopping online, mainly because even with photos ( :poke: ) you can’t really see and touch what you’re getting into. That bugs me to no end.

you’ve been reading Sun Tzu again, haven’t you!

It is inscribed on my bones.

Only thing is, it’s kinda hard to read that way.

skinnin’…

Acid bath…lots of foam.

Speaking of which… :poke:

So, what is eggcarton foam doing in a pet supply store, anyway?
