be realistic about your needs. i use the gig bag on seth gallagher’s cite-if its not there write to him. it is a perfect size for a half set. it is not rigid but is well padded. its great for planes- fits easily in the overhead. if you never let your pipes out of your sight away from home, which you should not- its more than enough.
It’s there to aid you in researching your questions. No, “all” questions are not answered there, but if you read the FAQ first, your answer may be there.
Don’t assume anything, just the FAQs Ma’am… er… sir.
This Land is My Land… old timey? Jeez, your making me feel old. I think that song was written in the forties. Does that make me an old timer?
Here’s one more plug for the trombone gig bag.
This case is my case. It should be your case. It takes up less space. On flights it has a place, Goes over your shoulder, and has a chanter holder, This case was made for Uilleann P’s http://www.reunionblues.com/504-15.html
The necessary size of a half set case depends on your half set. If you buy a case before you buy your drones, there’s a good chance that either the case will be larger than necessary, or, umm, the other way round…
Limiting dimensions are usually 1) length from beginning of mainstock to end of bass drone slide joint (with or without slide removed, depending on whether you mind removing the bass drone slide when packing up, and 2) size and construction of your bellows.
I think (and I could be wrong about this) that the original This Land was penned by Woody Guthrie in the mid to late 30’s.
You’re an old timer only if you really want to be. ‘Old Timey’ is my reference to folk/mountain music of the US from the earlier part of the 20th century. Or also music from the period in time when the IWW was at its strongest.
Back to topic: Viola cases that have been gutted out also provided a nice home for pipes.
Here’s what I use (the pipemajor case) with the separate compartment removed. I don’t have to remove the bass drone resonator when I pack my pipes and customs don’t look at me like I’m taking an M60 as carry-on.
It’s fair for the old timers to point to old responses on the Forum. It is also fair to expect spontaneous responses that reflect timely and current thinking.
