The people in Atlanta did an outstanding job on the Tionol. It was great and one of the best that I have attended.
The piping instructor were superb, Daivd Power and Patrick Hutchinson. If you were not able to be there,
I’m sorry that you missed a good one.
Thanks so much, Gary & Tricia White plus Kathy, Mary, Eileen, Pelham and all the folks from the Irish community there:
South East Uilleann Pipers Club, the Irish Arts Foundation of Atlanta, and Irish Music Traditions (the Atlanta branch of CCÉ).
You have a wonderful thing going there.
I could not state it better. It was a great weekend. Again, I have come away with new friends, and enough new ideas to digest and incorporate to last a year (or more).
Since this was my first Tionol, I must admit I was bit overwhelmed. The information I received from Patrick Hutchinson and David Power nearly overloaded my circuits, but it was well worth it.
My thanks to Gary and the SEUPC for organizing this event. I’m already looking forward to next year (when hopefully, I will be a “beginner” as opposed to a “rank beginner”).
I would be remiss If I didn’t thank JES for giving me the swift kick o’ encouragement I needed to make the decision to go.
Thanks guys, I had a tremendous time as well. My only regrets are not having a coffeemaker that perked faster…and not having more time to listen to David playing Ed’s C# set…wow!
Reepicheep, it was good to finally meet you in person…keep up the good work (and get a softer reed, it’ll make all the difference in the world).
I remember my first Tionol, down in FL with Cillian Vallely and Keiran O’Hare…I felt the same way..like a sponge that was totally saturated and dripping with information. Actually, I feel that way after every Tionol.
It was great craic! I wish I had played more and socialized less. No, I don’t. I wish that it was longer than a weekend!
Thanks to all the Atlanta area folk for making it happen, especially you Snoogie. I know what sort of commitment and work goes into pulling off an event like this. You da man!
Patrick Hutchinson thanks for the Tao of the chanter, and a good shot in the arm, as always .
David Power, thanks for your patience, encouragement, insight and the metaphysical conversation.
Pat, Russ, Joseph…thanks for the laughs.
Ed, Michael, Christian, Jack, Kathleen, wish we’d had more time to play.
Oh well, there’s always the next tionól. I’ve got a lot of lessons to work on until then.
Rick
Definitely one of the most inopportune weekends to lose your voice, hemorrhage mucus out of your nostrils and weather a splitting headache, but I soldiered through and still managed to have a wonderful time regardless (hope I didn’t infect anyone). Met some really nice folks too. Man, I love this instrument.
