Ever tire of all that angry wet white stuff laying all over the ground up there in the NE?.. There a 0% chance that there will be any here anytime in February… coincidentally when the SE Tionol is scheduled down here…
We guarantee PERFECT piping weather for the South East Tionol. The line-up is unbelievable and the student to teacher ratio is great… except if you’re a fiddler. If you’re a fiddler, the line-up is still great, but you’ll be bumping elbows. Wish you could be here, Ted… we would show you all our clumps of wild Arundo Donax and you could tell us all about it… Pretty good stuff. Have fun this weekend!
The well known, well loved Pat Sky in all his gloriness is indeed coming to the Tionol and will be a teacher throughout the entire event. In the morn Saturday he will be helping beginners get a footing, then reedmaking Saturday afternoon and a Reed tweaking/maintenance class on Sunday AM.
There are a few “special guests” as well, but you have to come to find out! Teehee!
Getting close to the time. Looks like a great weekend is shaping up. Glad to see Pat Sky will be doing a maintenance workshop. It is both dismaying and humorous to see the various unusual things folks will do to a set of pipes to keep them together and air-tight. This is a much neglected topic at tionols. I trust the weather is holding up as well. It should be lots of fun.
One of our pipers loves using duck tape to remedy his problems on his lovely pipes. Uggh. Yes, I hope Pat helps set us straight.
The weather will be absolutely gorgeous. Hope Folks pack their shorts… the highs should be in the low 80s with not a drop of rain in sight. Those coming a day early can watch the Space Shuttle launch in the East as we can see it from Orlando, and it is taking off tomorrow at 4:30 or so.
And then there’s the music, new tunes, and craic. I’m so excited about THOSE parts, I think I’m going to POP!
Did anyone go? DID ANYONE GO?! Yes indeedy, anyone DID go, and it was totally wicked (quoting daughter)! Kathleen and her crew did an absolutely fantastic job. Will certainly want to write this one up as one of the best tionol’s ever… She and her crew had such a fantastic job with every little detail. Michael Cooney was in great form. Mick was in great form. Kara was as lovely a human being as ever - and her playing, oh her playing… Florence played so calmly but so punchy… Willie was ever the gentleman - as was Andrew, Mick’s brother who graciously stepped in to teach one of the fiddle classes.
Pat Sky was there as the now ‘openly grumpy’ genius that he is… no seriously, had the pleasure of sitting next to him at Sunday’s session, and listening to the sagacious playing that he achieves…
Mick did things with his chanter off his knee, asking us to do the same that hurt my brain… serious dexterity in that playing. I now know why his playing sounds the way it does. Simply ‘wow’.
Cooney was the rhythmic and variation beast that he always is… there is a metronome in that head of his for sure.
Great tionol! I say the next one that comes south to Florida should be in Orlando.
Oh, and the sessions… sessions in C… sessions all night. Sessions with Father Coen. Sessions with Sean Ryan and Pat Broaders… the sessions, the sessions…
