Just ran a quick search but came up with mostly week-long things. Does anyone have URLs or other resources for whistle/music schools in Ireland, where one can go study for 6-12 months?
Edit - an added bonus would be a place with irish language lessons as well.

Why not get in touch with our very own Carmel Gunning in Sligo? She is good enough for the Dervish folks, they recommend her on their webpage. You may be able to pick up a nice slow air, too, face to face.
As far as I know, UCC offers a 1-year Certificate in ITM. Try http://music.ucc.ie, and get in touch with the department. UCC also offers spoken Irish classes…
Private message me if you can’t find the info!

I have recently had the pleasure of a summer school with Niall Keegan, of the World Music Centre at the University of Limerick, who was teaching us. He’s one of the big boys at the university. There’s a possibility that he may be able to steer you in the right direction. Look up the university web site and e mail Niall at … niall.keegan@ul.ie
I don´t know that much about the quality of the school, but its in a gaeltacht where they still talk in gaelic and if youre lucky, you might get a session with the musicians of Altan in the next town.
It´s about 5 miles away.
The homepub of Clannad is`nt too far away too.
So there is some music around and the landscape is just gorgeous.
Check it out.

Just checked the music dept’s website & discovered that I’ve got the address wrong - the public information site is http://www.ucc.ie/ucc/depts/music/. Sorry!
