SOLD: a whistle with a reed on it?! (Xaphoon pocket sax)

Actually traded for Tipple flute.
Thanks for all who sent messages to me.

Maui Xaphoon

OK, this is a bit off-topic, since this is not a whistle. But this is the kind of instrument many whistle players will enjoy.

I want to sell my “pocket saxophone,” which is a plastic version of a bamboo folk saxophone. (Hate to part with it, but am wanting to buy a Tippler flute.) It has 9 finger holes (with no keys), and plays with a tenor sax reed. My instrument is black with brass-colored trim. It is 12 and 3/4 inches long, and plays very well in tune from middle C up. The lower, and most practical, register is an octave and a fourth.

My Xaphoon will come with a plastic Bari brand saxophone reed, which will last forever unless mistreated. (I will also include a cane reed.) The instrument is very sturdy and really does make a practical “pocket” instrument. The sound created by such a short instrument with such a large reed is interesting. Great for playing a slow Irish air, or breaking into something more funky. It is sure to bring questions.

See pictures and read more about the instrument at http://www.xaphoon.com/
(Don’t miss the recording of The Pink Panther under Sound Samples.)

Please contact me by private message.

Thanks,

If I may, I owned a Xaphoon not too long ago, which I had to sell for money-collecting reasons. But all in all, it was a very fine instrument. I used to play tenor sax, and it is SO MUCH EASIER to play a Xaphoon than it is to play a [tenor] sax. It has a nice, pure sound, though it takes some tightening and pushing in the upper octave, but is nice nonetheless. Another reason why I had to sell…my dog REALLY didn’t like it.

Thanks, Shadow,

But surely your dog doesn’t like your soprano whistles any better!

Oreo Phil

Oddly enough, he doesn’t/they don’t mind the whistles. I think it must have something to do with volume, and proximity of your playing. The bagpipe player up the road doesn’t seem to phase them. It might also have something to do with vibration. I’ve played the pocket sax, a tenor sax, and a trumpet around the dogs with similar results. I also fixed an oboe reed to a Generation G body, and they didnt like that either. I DIDN’T EVEN LIKE THAT. For those who play/have played these, you know there is some good “vibes”, and you can “feel it”. Go figure.

I really wish I still had a trumpet…

price?

Sorry for not giving a price in the first post. The current price at the web site is $54.95. (They’re on special now. I think we paid more. :frowning: )
The Bari reed currently is $7.95 on the Web.
Shipping for the pocket sax would be probably about $10.
The condition of the sax is like new, including the instruction book.
This Xaphoon is the original size, not the special bamboo instrument that can be ordered in D.

I hope sell for $60 plus the cost of shipping. We could plan on $5 if in the continental USA (if using USPS).

Payment would be most convenient if by Paypal.

Thanks,
Phil

Hi ShadowBG625!
Just taking the chance of this thread to ask you if you could explain how to fix the oboe reed into a generation whistle. I just bought an oboe reed and was trying to figure out what to do. It comes fixed in a kind of small cork and there is a metallic tube inside, I believe to fit into the oboe’s bed better, should I remove it from the cork? Also, I tried to put it from inside the fipple, and it’s too narrow… should it really go like the position in an oboe or should I try to adapt it externally like a clarinet or fax?

Thanks

Sent you a PM Romulo. Hope it helps.
