I recently purchased this Xaphoon (bamboo sax) from a member of this board and had some problems playing it. Then I took it to a friend of mine who is an excellent sax player and he informed me that the reed was mismatched to the instrument and proceeded to set me up with the proper reed. Now it plays like a champ, or I should say a very sweet clarinet instead of a sax. This instrument is in the key of C.
After playing it for an hour or so I have come to realize that I prefer the lower back pressure of my own low whistles so I’m letting it go. Its the bamboo one, not the plastic one, and it’s in perfect shape (no cracks of any kind). The maker charges $120.00 for a new one and I’m willing to let it go for what I paid for it, $80.00 plus shipping. I’ll also throw in one of the new reeds as a spare.
