Hi Everyone,
On Sunday, November 26, I’m going to hold a group class for wooden flute players at my workshop in East Greenwich, RI. This group class will go from 1:00 - 4:00 PM and includes a session and potluck dinner after the class. Liquid refreshments will be compliments of the Healy Flute Company.
The class will be divided into two 90 minute sessions with a break in between. The first half will focus on techniques essential to the novice flute player such as breathing, posture, hand position on the flute, and basic playing techniques.
The second half will focus on the playing of tunes and a study of the different traditional forms of jigs, reels, hornpipes, marches, and slow airs. I will also encourage attendees to play a solo piece for critique and suggestions. I will play one example of each type of tune for recording.
We will finish the afternoon with a session and pot luck supper for those interested.
This class is open to all skill levels and only requires a flute. Notepaper and recording devices are encouraged but not required.
It would be great if each student can also bring one hot dish or heavy appetizers. Email me if you have any questions about food or use of a kitchen.
The fee for three hours of training, the session, dinner, refreshments, and all-around great craic is $80 per person.
