INSTRUCTOR BIO:
Skip Healy started to play music at the age of eight, learning to play
fife
with
the Kentish Guards Fife & Drum Corps in his hometown of East Greenwich,
Rhode Island. Now at the age of 45 he is widely regarded as one of
America’s
finest fife and Irish flute players. In 1989, his home state honored
him
with the title of “Master Musician for the state of Rhode Island”. As
of
January 2000, Skip’s recordings have been added to Ireland’s
Traditional
Music Archive in Dublin. He has taught individual and group lessons
across
the U.S. and Europe for 25 years.
Skip established the Healy Fife and Flute Company
(http://www.skiphealy.com/) in East Greenwich, Rhode Island in 1993. He
specializes in the designing and building of a wide variety of wooden
fifes,
flutes, and piccolos. In 2001, he founded Wind On The Bay East Coast
Flute
Symposium to help musicians access high-quality training on flute and
fife.
