Six-Key Murry Boxwwod Flute on Ebay

This looks like it would be a fun flute.
A little bit of a banana though…

Notice the seller is our own Justin Murphy (New Orleans). Fine CD by him (“Mana”).

Kevin Krell

And that also just goes to show you how humidity can go either way . . . New Orleans is more humid than Belfast, and the flute is quite bent.

But no reserve (on the auction)! Wow!

Stuart

I think with the unlined head, and the amount of moisture that accumulates in the head,(especially if it sits in one area and is not swabbed) may play an important role.
Maybe some scientist Like Terry could tell us the dynamics of the “banana syndrome”. The old english flute that I got a couple of years ago, is bending from the embouchure away from the person, (unless he is a lefty) just like this one?
I wonder if it would be possible to steam the wood and hang weights on it to straighten it out?

Congrats, Cathy

Mary

catski !!!
what a great price !!!
I’m so happy for you.
e.

Who’s gonna repair it?

M

Thanks, guys. :astonished:

I am such a psycho.

Mary – My beloved gadfly pal eilam suggested Mr. Gallagher, which sounds like a good idea. And then of course, the Talented Mr. Copley lives just up the road … although I suppose it’ll really be a matter of who WANTS to take it on!

Anyway, when I get over paying for it, I guess I’ll be talking to one or the other or both! But suggestions are welcome.

I thought I might write Sam about sending me a couple of keys and pins, perhaps.

Heck, I don’t know.

(mumbling) I’m such a psycho. I’m such a psycho.

John’s gonna kill me.

Congrats, Cat!

Nothing wrong with adding another Murray to your collection. I had no idea the flute would go for so cheap. Though I’m very satisfied with my blackwood Ward, that Murray is the only boxwood that has ever tempted me.

That flute is one mighty banana.

Cheers,
Aaron

Hey, thanks, Aaron – and even more, thank you for a great name idea!

I hereby dub this flute “The Mighty Banana.” (aka The Slippery Sam?)

And I know what you mean about boxwood – I’ve never gotten really wound up about it myself; it was the keyed Murray thing that got me going.

OK, back to scraping under the sofa cushions and sifting through the vaccuum-cleaner bag for extra pennies. Does anyone here owe me any money?

Catski, got this from Andrew this morning:
Hello
Can you tell Cathy who bought the Murray flute that the vendor told me that
his father has the missing keys ?He did not mention it on eBay.It makes
quite a difference.
Thanks
Andrew

by now you know all this, you lucky _____!,
but just to show that Andrew is a cool guy, once more.
e.

E – indeed, Justin wrote me about the keys this morning; what a nice fellow!

But please pass on to Andrew my gratitude. That is sooooo intensely cool of him.

Our guardian flute angel

Also … wouldja tell him I miss his humor and send him my best?

Again, thanks Andrew! And of course … bless you, too, E-ski! (but you already know that)
