The chanter was made from Australian Red Lancewood by Ian Mackenzie of Blackheath late in 2002, received in 2003. It’s a wide bore D chanter in the Rowesome style that features 4 brass keys and a brass reedcap. The bellows is like new (only a few buckle marks on the belt) with black leather gussets and blonde colored wood clappers that I believe to be Flamed Maple. The leather bag has a dark green velvet-like fabric covering. Included: 3 good reeds. Price: $1,500US buyer pays shipping & insurance.
This is my favorite chanter. It plays loud with clear deep tone.

Yeah Joseph, it hurts. I’ve owned about 10 chanters and probably tried another 5-6 other chanters in the last few years and this one is my favorite wide bore D.
Tony, I agree with you about the lovely deep sound that you get from a SIMACK D set. My stick follows an almost identical design to the above. The exception being the windcap which is brass and has an imitation ivory mount. It only has a Cn key.
One more thing I might add is SIMACK pipes are very stable. I got my pipes professionaly tuned in New Zealand and came back to Australia to find that they were still in tune and playing with that nice deep tone that Tony mentioned.
I am truly sory Tony that you have to sell this beuty . If you are a potential buyer you’ll be getting a wonderfull and very responsive chanter, bag and bellows.

About my hearing loss…
Nothing.
It’s been three months and I’m totally deaf in my left ear.
I’ve seen a specialist who referred me to another specialist that deals in neurological disorders of the ear. Since my ear is acoustically functioning… the problem is a break in the nerves leading to the brain. This also affects my equilibrium. I have only regained some of my balance back. Too much movement makes me sick to my stomach.. just like being on a small boat in choppy water. The medicines to repress this make me sleep for hours… so, I tollerate the nausea as much as I can.
I’ve had two injections of steroids directly into my middle ear. The procedure is to make a tiny slit in the ear drum and insert the needle into the middle ear and fill the space with a few cc’s of steroid while I lay sideways for 20+ minutes for the stuff to soak in. So far it’s been the most pain I’ve had to endure… I went for in hope of some hearing recovery… some doctors consider the benefits low percentage… especially at this point.
I had a suspected acoustic neuroma about 18 months ago. 3 months and 2 MRI scans later, the doc changed his diagnosis to an unspecific virus. All the same, it was a long 3 months.
