Due to an impending family crisis (my wife has a longterm progressive illness and I am having to give up the day job to look after her) I am going to have to sell my beloved collection of pipes in order to raise a bit of cash to pay off a few debts. I hope to be able to “tool-up” again in the future but at the moment need the cash.
Collection is as follows:
PRACTISE SET by Brian Howard, concert D, standard Howard pattern, unkeyed, Ebony chanter, fairly new (?1/2 years old) offers based on £500
3/4 SET by Dave Evans, also concert D, based on a Rowsome pattern with swan neck, chanter stop and Cnat key. Rosewood and brass. Very pretty, lovely set made for me about 20 years ago, but could do with re-reeding. Offers based on £3000.
FULL SET by Brad Angus in B. Some of you may remember me buying this set only a few months ago. Chanter is fully keyed with chanter stop key. Ebony with boxwood mounts and brass keywork. This set is seriously beautiful both to look at and to play, and it breaks my heart most of all to have to sell this one. Offers based on £4000
Each set has its own case, and the Brad set also comes with a box of assorted reeds
Anyone interested give me a shout either by reply or by PM. Will try and get my arse in gear to get some pics up (Brads set can be seen on his web site) but at the moment am to depressed to do it.
I am with you on this one Islandpiper. I am sorry to hear about your problem Foxale, let us know what we can do..I will be glade to chip in a few bucks if it means you can keep your pipes..all the best and good luck!
For many years I worked in Construction. Passing the hat was an honored tradition on any any jobsite:
Pass the hat, boys, send it 'round
A fellow is in need.
A five or ten-spot, nothing more
We’ll all help, you’ll see.
When one of us is ailing
Or has a cross to bear
We chip-in without failing
Because, you see, we care.
And next time that you see it
This hat could be for you.
'Cause were all in this together
A fine bunch, through and through.
So give of bit 'o what you’ve got
And send the hat along.
Life’s a bitch, boys, pass the beer
And celebrate with song.
Its not a hand-out, take it friend,
Its all that we can do.
Just a bit from here and there,
A gift from us to you.
(Think about it…we can all spare the cost of a burger and fries, and who needs the calories? Paypal http://www.paypal.com is easy and fast and you can send directly to his email account from his profile, but there are other ways to help, I’m sure. There but for the grace of God go you and I… Help a fellow, it will come back to you ten-fold. Thanks, Islandpiper)
I am in on this. I am sorry to hear about your problems and you are in my prayers. But there must be a lot of folks on this list willing to chip in. I am going through some crap right now myself, but I can throw $50.00 in the kitty.
Hi Foxale, Sincerely sorry to hear of your problems.Have you considered taking them to the Birmingham tionol on the 25th. Not to hawk them round , you understand, but there will be a lot of pipers there ( who will also know a lot of other pipers) and not everyone logs on.Best wishes, Teirw
Thanks to you all for your kind thoughts- and in some cases extremely gernerous offers of financial help (which I couldn’t dream of taking).
I now have a buyer for the Howard set and some interest on the Angus- aadn my wife has NEARLY talked me into keeping the Evans and getting it re-reeded so I at least have something to play til we get sorted out.
To answer your questions- I don’t have the technology to record the set and send sounds to you- however, Kevin Reitman as I am sure you know is a mate of Brads’ and has sets of his- he might be able to send you some sound clips of Brads pipes if you spack to him?
The tone holes are not scalloped and I can’t see if they are undercut-
again Kevin may be able to answer this.
NOTE TO ALL- the buyer for the Howard practise set has dropped out due to lack of funds, and I haven’t heard back from the person who was interested in the Brad set- so further interest is welcome!!
cheers
