REMINDER... First Annual Detroit River Whistle In

Am I happy to see this glorious forum up and going — Thank you Rich and Petro.

This is a Reminder for this coming Sunday, June 1st

And from the responses I got — it looks like a fun time

A week ago on a different posting the thread got sort sideswiped into the possibility of having a Whistle IN for Chiffers here in Windsor.

It would be a one day (afternoon) event at a local pub here in Windsor, Ontario, Canada- right across from Detroit.

I talked to the owner of the Kildare House and he is quite enthusiastic about the idea. I can book the upstairs of the pub for ourselves on a Sunday afternoon.

Now the big questions who is interested ? And what Sunday in May or early June is convenient for every one interested.

Ann Arbor and Kalamazoo Michigan are an hour away. London is two hours. How many of us whistle players live within that range that can make an afternoon of whistling fun and get a chance to meet others here on this board.

Let me know!

Edited to change subject line and to bump to the top. Have heard from some interested whistlers. MB

Bump - Bump - Bumpity

I have heard from some interested whistlers, but decided to bump it up again for those who the fortitude not to check this glorious board every day for every hour or so just keep alive for awhile

MarkB

20 minute drive for me. Count me in.
My wife & I were at the Kildare upstairs on St Patricks Day for dinner, a few pints, and enjopy the music. Good choice for a whistle-in.
No preference for Sunday, except probably can’t make the Victoria Day Holiday weekend.

Sunday May 11
Sunday May 18
Sunday May 25
Sunday June 1
Sunday June 8

Actually, I can do all of them. All my commitments are on Fri & Sat.
Kalamazoo is probably 2 1/2 to 3 hours away, but I’m in. Hopefully with a new buddy, Geek4music. You up for it, Rick?

See you!

Cara

Hi Cara

It is probably looking to be Sunday, June 1st. You have Memorial Day weekend, and we have Victoria Day weekends in May. Neither of us really want to give a long weekend.

I have heard from several in this area that are very much interested, so I think that there might be six of us so far.

MarkB

Thanks Mark. That works for me-- and it’s now in my calendar. Just let me know if it suddenly falls through!

Cara

hey Cara,
how about a ride? I’d kind of like to go.

edit: If not, thats cool :sunglasses:

Six C&Fer’s have shown interest so far:

Bob Baksi - Lakeshore Ontario
SteveK - London
Thurlowe – Kalamazoo
Geek4music – Kalamazoo
Colomon – Ann Arbor
Duckrasta
myself – Windsor Ontario

Waiting to here from Eubiedubie

A good size gathering for a Sunday afternoon.

MarkB

Hey Duck,

Let’s all carpool with Rick (geek4music)! If it’s all right with him. You don’t have a car, and mine’s on its last legs (still). If it turns out Rick can’t make it, I WILL rent or borrow a car, and of course you can ride with me!

Cara

Glenn Schultz told me today he’s planning on being at the Kildare Whistle-In, and I expect him to be playing one of his beautiful Weasels as well as bringing his Box to play.
I’ll bring a Guitar and some whistles. Mark, I assume you’ll bring Bodhran and your new flute. I’m playing an Irish wedding reception with concertina maker Frank Edgley & a few others this weekend, so if you want me to invite Frank to slip over and add a concertina player to the event, let me know. Frank’s concertina workshop is about 3 short blocks from the Kildare. A couple of us C&Fers have recently bought concertinas from him.
If you want a fiddle player or 2, aslo let me know and I’ll see what I can do.

Still Travelling a bunch, Mark, but if it works, I’ll be there.

Hi Bob

More the merrier(people and instruments), Frank is always welcome to come. And it will good to see and play with Glenn again.

Anybody else in the area is also welcomed.

You travel to much Dave! But it will nice to see you again. Got any experimental whistles to try out?

MarkB

Let me know the date when it is chosen..I would try to make it if you are not all afraid of having a Torontonian in your midst…and I understand pefectly if you are.

Liz

Count me in- May 11, May 18, May 25. I haven’t seen Frank since Celtic college last year…

 Hi Mark
just found thie message for the whistle in I’ll be there

I cannot express how much I would like to make this trip on June first and give Duck and Cara a ride. Especially since I just bought a Thin Weasel and I think someone here would like to play it. And Glenn will be there.

However there is something going on that day that I would MUCH rather do. In fact I’d rather do this other thing then play with Mary Bergin.

That is my second daughter is graduating from high school on June 1st. :stuck_out_tongue:

So, maybe we can set up another session another time (except July) and I can partake.

BTW. I’m going to Elderly’s this Saturday (10:30 or 11:00 am). Anyone want to ride or meet there?
Duck? Cara? Anyone? We can all play whistles and drown out everyone else!!!

Can’t you get the school to change graduation date, Rick? Come on!

Seriously, congratulations on your daughter’s graduation. You must be so proud to have her reach this important milestone.

Duck and I will be travelling in style June 1st in a rented Ford Fiesta, probably.

We’ll miss you!

Cara

Hey, guys, I just wanted to wish you a great time! Man, NO ONE from Kalamazoo ever comes to the Rocky Mountain Sessions…that would be so great…

Tom

It would appear that a Torontonian isn’t welcome. Oh well.

We are getting used to it. Have fun.

Silly! lashes Lizzie with a wet noodle Of course you are welcome!
Most of us have invited ourselves, you know. But here’s your official invitation:

Most divine Lizzie,

The honor of your company is requested in Windsor, Ontario on June 1st. Without you, rain will fall, and our whistles will only play lonesome airs. Your cheerful presence is the only thing that can abate the melancholy that is sure to descend upon us that fateful day.

Sincerely,

Cara
