The highest note on the tenor and bass regulators of my 1979 Ginsberg set is C#. Ted Anderson had the set Ginsberg made right after mine, and it had the same tuning. Denis Brooks mentions in his tutor that the top note can be either C# or C♮, but I’ve never seen another set with the C# tuning. Does anyone know of any other sets with C# instead of C♮?
Mine had C#s for a while. I re-tuned them to Cnat by lengthening the reed seats, filling the tone holes and re-drilling and undercutting them and then drilled new pivot holes at the front of the blocks. C# seemed useless to me.
I can tune the c on my tenor reg. to c# easier than trying to keep it at c nat. The c# is useful for throwing in surprising harmonies now and then. I get c nat by opening the G or F# keys which is easy with the right hand off the chanter. Doing this with the right hand on is difficult for me (you arch your hand over the other keys. I am sure a good piper would find it easy.
