Regs and drones tuning for second octave notes

Hi! I was looking for an answer in an existing topic, but could not find anything about this..

So I am trying to get my regulators to bend to my will, and I am quite happy with how it is going. However, when I play higher notes in the 2nd octave on my chanter (F#, G, A, B) I find myself adding a bit extra pressure to keep them on. Now my drones and regs tuning suddenly starts misbehaving. Is this a problem that you recognize? everything is behaving really well in the first octave, and I am quite happy with the chanter reed overall. should I cut my losses, or is this problem even expected of a normal UP set?

Yes that’s the conundrum: the drones and the regs, in theory, are being blown at one exact pressure to stay exactly on pitch, while the chanter, in theory, has its various notes played at different pressures.

It comes down to the drones and regs being made and reeded in such a way that they can withstand a small variance of pressure and still stay on pitch, and the chanter made and reeded in such a way that all the notes can be played within a narrow window of pressure.

On my chanter there’s a central core of notes that all play at around the same pressure, from F# in the low octave up to G in the 2nd octave, the differences between the F’s and G’s being very very slight. I do have to back off on Low E just a tad, and give High A just a tad of a boost. So the regs stay on pitch throughout that range.

Unfortunately my High B requires extra pressure, enough to throw the regs off. That’s a quirk in my chanter which other chanters evidently don’t have.
