i have problems with my baritone regulator, note D often raises the second octave, is there any tip to avoid this problem?. Can i use a reed that i had in the chanter?

You can try making the reed harder to blow, by opening the lips, compressing the bridle or sliding it up (if it can slide). The keys may be leaking-blowing smoke through the pipe with the endcap off and the exit plugged is the best way to detect leaks; otherwise blow air and listen carefully for hissing sounds. Leaks will make notes unstable or overblown. Or, there may be to much rush (extra material) above the D. Try pulling the reed out, adding string to its bottom, or sliding it out of its tube seat if it has one of those, and retuning the regulator. Of course, if you pull it out too far the top note may no longer be in tune. ![]()
