Any ideas what causes a baritone regulator reed to play hard D on the bottom note but much flatter than normal D. Is the scrape too thin? It jumps into Hard mode when I apply more pressure such as playing in 2nd octave. All other notes bang on in tune and rock steady.
It might be due to end-bore correction; the amount of air space below the bottom note may need to be altered. Try removing the reg cap and blocking ff the bore with some tape across the open end, and see if that alters things significantly.
Thanks for the suggestion Mike. In the end it turned out to be a reed thing. When I had another play today, the bottom D decided to begin singing away happily with no change in pitch even when I played the chanter up 2nd octave. Maybe it got a bit hot and bothered yesterday as I was constantly playing around with the bridle trying to fine tune things.
I did follow your suggestion anyway, just to see what would happen, and it ended up causing stability issues with the F#.
