I’m playing around with some new video equipment (Panasonic SV-AV100 SD video recorder), posted a short video of my rendition of “Sport” in .WMV format:
It’s kind of spooky watching yourself playing… facial tics and all… made a minor mistake the second time through…
Anyway, I’m hoping to do more online video postings, wanted to see if others are able to view the file. Its at 300kbit/sec so will require a DSL or cable modem line to watch in realtime.
Mac OS 9.2.2. Explorer. loaded as a text file of gobbledygook. Tried pulling it onto desktop but it still launched text file. Add wmv to my helpers file, using quicktime (my movie player). No dice thus far. Hey, i wanna see it! I have a quick DSL connection.
My default browser is Netcape 7.1 but media player 9 is only linked to IE.
Just a quick ‘cut & paste’ of the URL and it plays perfectly.
Good job Michael. That’s your Kirk Lynch set, correct?
For anyone who is having problems with the video, if you update to the latest Windows Media Codec 9 series, that should clear the problem and get you the latest version from Microsoft.
I have WinXP, but Netscape v7.1 just don’t wanna. I was able to get it going in IE, tho. Very nice.
I am curious if you had to reduce the sampling rate to compress the file for download (like an mp3), or did you just record it and put it up on your web site? Are you just using the built-in Win software for recording video, or did you buy another package?
The camera (a Panasonic SV-AV100 SD based digital) produces DVD compatible MPEG-2 files at either 3 or 6 megabit/second. I used the standalone Microsoft Window Media Encoder application to transcode the original file to a 300 kbit/sec WMV9 file, with enough bits dedicated to audio to keep some descent fidelity.
Very good Michael, very helpful for some of us lone pipers, looking forward to your next Video post…P.S. If you are taking requests, what about Roisin Dubh???
Mike :adminok:
I was able to see the video Michael, no problems at all. I’m on a PC running Windows 2000 Pro with a P3 on a T1. Windows Media Player ver. 9.00.00.3008
I don’t think the video portion of a WMV9 file is playable on a Mac since the latest version of Windows Media Player for MacOS is 7.1. Version 9 is Windows only. Quicktime might be a more universal format since it works on all versions of Windows, MacOS and Linux.
Still, I did get to see it live as I was trying to hold the camera steady. If I remember correctly Michael, your jaw was moving in unison with the bellows for a few sections A little extra air never hurts. Nicely played just the same.
I’d hate to see what I look like when I play.
