Hey you lot,
The SoCal Tionól is on for this weekend (JOBM and Seán McKiernan have both arrived safe and sound in sunny Southern California). Looks like we’re in for some great music and mighty craic.

Treat the newbie to the “Reed Eating” Ceremony.
I hope you enjoy the tast of copper & cane Mr. Cullen! D’arcy may go easy on ye’ and allow for a tubing staple, but who knows? I’ve seen Larry eat a handful of reeds and then go on to win a fencing tourney blindfolded!
Tionol Virgin;
a) a Tiongin
b) a Virgol
c) a schmart feller
Well, Ted’s coming down;He can show Jeff how to pound staples ![]()

Braz - I pick “c”. Better to be a schmart feller than a fart schmeller!
I’ll be wanting my reed salad topped with beeswax please !
See ya all there.
I’m riding down with Ted and Mr. Hubbert, so I’ll be sure to convey the need for a reed cocktail.
Garnished with some pretty little bridles and bellows-shaped umbrella.
Really looking foward to the weekend. See y’all on Friday!
Can’t wait. I’m in San Francisco for the week (apparently there was a big earthquake last night which I failed to notice). Looking forward to meeting those of you I don’t know. Unfortunately, I discovered that I forgot to pack my B chanter. So it’ll be D for me all weekend.
misterpatrick your room is ready. It took a bit of cleaning, but I got it there.
It is the shuttling back and forth that we will need to figure out, since you might want to stay late (or early really). I usually go home around midnight on Friday and Saturday But so many people hang out till the early morning.

I’ll say, that is a tough one to figure out ![]()
He is flying into LAX tomorrow to be at the tionol.
We really are an accomodating bunch in SoCal ![]()
Wow, who’s that guy from the US east coast with (what looks to be) that Taylor Bros. set? That is a very interesting setup and sound!
What are you referring to Beau?

You must mean this guy, the ever infamous Mark Hillmann. He bangs on those regulators like there’s no tomorrow, similar to Jerry O’Sullivan. Here’s another trademark of his playing, in a room of box players and and banjos etc. can you hear him above all else? He’s wicked with variations. His taylor set is 150 years old but thats is his own chanter. Talk to him, he’ll make one for you. Great teacher also speaking as one of his students.
Here’s a link to a page with photos of his Taylor set.

Yes, that’s the guy. What an interesting set he has. I think the chanter is of a different maker, though.
