Objective discussions of philosophy, theology, and politics are okay, but when things start getting strongly personal and subjective, the discussion may be getting too close to the danger zone. I say lock the thread.
I’ve read the entire thread and feel it’s a very lively debate, which can be a good thing. I don’t think it would do any good at all to lock it, for anybody. It’d probably come back in some form, anyway…I say let it stay and take its own course, as long as it doesn’t become threatening or violent.
Why did you start it in the first place? Like we haven’t had enough bad feelings around here because of politics anyway. You started a thread once called “Why do some people shoot themselves in the foot?”

I agree with everyone.
I think the thread was the most informative and civil discussion of that monument thing issue stuff that I’ve seen online. Indeed, it was the only informative and civil discussion of same I’ve seen online. Of course, I expect nothing less from the friendly folks who inhabit C&F. So it’s really not a flamewar, or anything in need of intervention.
Nevertheless, I think it’s time to lock the thread anyway, just because it’s gone on long enough, and I suspect everyone’s pretty much hashed out all that needed to be said on the matter.

It should be locked if for no other reason than it’s starting to get as big as that cutie-pie thread. 
Seriously though, I hope I had nothing to do with the decision (as I’m one of the last posters). Note to Ridseard: I enjoyed our brief exchange and hope you didn’t view it as an attack of any kind. I can’t for the life of me think that you’d see it that way, but just so it’s said … it certainly wasn’t meant that way.

I didn’t say I thought it was a bad thread. I just wondered if maybe it’s time to move on.

I started it because I’m always looking for little tidbits from the headlines to allude to in the titles of my newsletters. Had I written a newsletter recently, I probably would have picked up on the “Fair & Balanced” thing. I tried it out here and put the Al Franken article in. That it has strayed off into religious debate is probably not entirely my responsibility.

I agree with The Weekenders.
Headquarters has just informed us that as of 11:37 P.M. Eastern time, representatives of the Don’t Lockdown Party (DLP) contacted our studios to insist that we immediately cease reporting that the election has been won by the Do Lockdown Party (DLP). The Don’t Lockdown Party (DLP) spokesperson stated that it’s still too early in the counting of votes, and our reporting may influence people in other time zones not to go to the polls.

We need at least a couple of threads to attract all the cookie, inflammatory and genneraly offensive posts. If you lock it, those people will start posting in the whistle threads!
I think Dale must be commended for starting that thread. By staying away from it, i’ve been able to have a much more enjoyable C&F experience.
