I got another poem published in the National Catholic Reporter. It’s out in print this week and the web version is at

Thanks Dale.
Sometimes we need a gentle reminder of that.
Very, very cool, Dale. Thanks for sharing.

Well done, Dale.
I like that one.
Fact is, so far I’ve never read a poem by you that didn’t touch me in some way. I’m still haunted by your poem about the firefighters–I still can’t read that one out loud.
Thanks for sharing your talent with us.

So am I. It’s always good to read your work.

You’re in good company–I enjoyed the others as well. “Moment of Decision” made me smile. (I quickly point out that the name of the first poet on the page is entirely coincidental.)

Congratulations!
Does anyone have a link to Dale’s poem regarding the firefighters?
I’d like to read it.
Thanks for sharing, Dale. That’s really nice.

That poem is called “The Work of Brothers” and is available (from the Chiff and Fipple archive) at

I hope Dale won’t be upset if I post it here for your convenience.

The Work of Brothers
Firemen
find a brother in the rubble.
After so many days, the body might be hard to take.
And yet, as they wrap him in the flag,
they speak to the corpse:
"Don’t worry about it.
Don’t you worry about it, Mike.
You’re alright. You’re alright.
We’re carrying you out of here."
And from the hands of one
to the hands of another
and then to another,
down the line,
across smoldering hills
and valleys never meant to be,
they pass their brother
home

Thank you Dale.
One of them was a friend of mine.
Great stuff, Dale!
N, thanks
Congrats Dale!
You do those profound slice of life moments so damn well, I’m envious!
Before this slips to page 2…
That’s absolutely lovely, Dale. I enjoy your poetry very much (currently awaiting your chapbook), and appreciate your sharing it with us. And that’s in addition to sharing this weird and wonderful site with us all.
Thanks so much.
