My poem, “The Work of Brothers,” is out in print in the January 18, 2001 National Catholic Reporter. It appears online on their website at

Thanks to all of you who encouraged me to publish that one.

What can I say? That was AWESOME!!!

Take care,

It’s amazing what can be created when a good heart and a fine mind come together in one person.

Dale Wisely, you are a good man.

Lest We Forget…
Thank you, Dale.

That was awesome - quite sad, but very good.

You are all very kind and I thank you. That poem comes from the heart and I am very pleased that the National Catholic Reporter decided to publish it.

I’ve published about 15 poems since I really started trying to do so two or three years ago. It’s an interesting process. There are two major ways to go in looking for places to publish poems. The first is to send them to poetry and literary magazines. With a few exceptions, these tend to be published in runs of about 300-800 copies. So, when you get published in one of those, you’re not really read very much–and you get the feeling that poets are kinda writing for each other. On the other hand, when you get poems accepted by these magazines, you feel like you’re getting the hang of writing “good” poetry. I’ve had some luck with getting published in these. In fact, last night I got a note that two of my poems “Blind Lemon Elephant,” and “The Poem Codes” were accepted at POET’S CANVAS. The other way to go is to look for magazine that appeal to somewhat wider interests. They have a larger circulation by far and you get read more. They usually pay better, too! National Catholic Reporter has now included poems I wrote in 3 different issues and it is nice because the circulation is in the tens of thousands. Anyway, I’m glad this little poem got out there because it is nice to do something to recognize firefighters, who, as a group, were heroes to me BEFORE 9/11.

Thanks again, y’all.

Dale
