Photos from the Chiff Gathering

Dana (DCrom) sent me photos from the Chiff Gathering at his house last weekend to post on the Clips site: http://tinwhistletunes.com/clipssnip/Danas3-07.htm
Tony

I envy you all. Looks like great fun!

Looks like fun indeed! Wish you were here. (since I can’t get there)

Damn! What fun!

I shoulda drove up, with that pot-o-split-pea. It would only be 6 hours drive, one way.

I just have to add that Tony with the Coke is actually Mr. Redwolf!

Redwolf

Excellent photos!!! Red, I don’ think I’d seen one of your harp and you together…very cool

It’s always neat to see other chiffers having such a grand time together

He’s too mellow to point it out, but its spelled Aldon, not Alden.

And, some fat guy was impersonating me at the party, I swear. Sigh.

Audrey has a cute lil traveler harp that weighed like, four lbs, in addition to her other. That was amazing…

Thanks for sharing the photos.

Tony

Thanks, Tony  I somehow missed that one.

Looks like it was fun and thanks for sharing the photos. One question however, where are the copious amounts of adult beverages (booze)?

In the other room, of course. My copious containers were on the floor. Didn’t kick em over once.

If I had been there, I’m sure I would have kicked them over for you. I have a certain aptitude for inadvertently knocking stuff over.

Why do you think we have wood floors? It’s a LOT easier to clean up after I spill something

It was only after sending the pictures out I realized that I was not to be seen except in the picture on the wall, and Daughter #2 only showed up with her head turned away. Oh well. Probably a good thing on my part. I suspect my wife has a Dorian Gray type picture somewhere, but I’m not as blessed :smiling_imp:

It was a great party - a smaller group than last time since some folks were out of town or busy, but the crew who showed up were both a lot of fun and d****ed good musicians. Great motivation to keep working on my own playing - I want to be able to keep up with more tunes!

If I may turn off my irony switch and go with total sincerity, it warms my heart to see these pictures, and all of the pictures of such gatherings. I’m not as active in this little C&F project as I once was, but these pictures remind me that we have done a good thing starting C&F 11 years ago, I think it was.

You can’t really tell, but I’ve lost nearly 20 pounds between the picture from Tony’s gathering and the one from Dana’s. 40 more to go!

See what happens when you start lugging harps around?

Redwolf

Hey, I’ll warm it more. My folk music group has two members because of C&F (Limu and monkey’s soon-to-be-bride, Angeline). Our group has never sounded better after 12 years of existence. We just got a formal concert at Mission San Francisco de Solano (most people call it the Sonoma Mission) in addition to several other good ones that are the result of the quality of our recent performances. When we get the new promo shot with both of them in it, I’ll post it here.

it’s awesome you guys live close enough to get together and play like that.

I’m still trying to find time now and again to get out to a session; Brian’s been inviting me out, but real life and other commitments get in the way more often than I like.

What would really be cool is if we could, in a couple years time maybe, do a big national Chiffers Gathering (one in the US, one in the UK perhaps?).

(Incidentally, if anyone is planning on being in the area at the time, the Utah Scottish Festival and Highland Games will be held on June 8th and 9th )

Where are the whistles? I didn’t see many, although Redwolf has a promising stash on the end table next to her.

What types of whistles made their way to the gathering?

That’s funny, now that I think of it. At the whistle parties at Tony’s, further north, there are usually a ton of whistles of every make laid out on the kitchen table.

We were too busy playing at this one to do the classic swap and try thing.

Also, some regulars bailed on the event at the last minute so it was a smaller crowd.

Eskin had a few out but like I said, we were so busy playing that we forgot to ooh and aah. I sorta remember some various flutes being swapped around. I tried to sell one Burke, but only half-heartedly as we were having fun.

As I recall, there were Burkes, a Copeland or two, Jerry tweaked Gen and perhaps a few more…

None of the pix showed me playing whistle, though i did play a fair bit. I made a point to bring both guitar and guitar-banjo this time because usually there are so many whistles that it’s just more interesting to play something else for the standard tunes..

Guess we need more newbs.
