Northern Calif Chiffgathering (Sept 8)

That’s only 3 months away. Time to get your dog washed, your nails done, yourself married, get back from vacation, etc. So think about dates in Sept and put in your preferences.

For those who aren’t familiar with the get togethers, I’ll be hosting in the San Francisco Bay Area (East Bay). Barbeque, potluck, session, beer, etc. Even badminton or ping pong if there’s an interest. Hopefully, my garden will still be in bloom.

Here are photos of past gettogethers:

I’m generally free in September, so long as it’s not on a Sunday (we’ll be starting Irish choir rehearsals on Sunday afternoons in September).

Redwolf

We’ve always had these things on a Saturday so people with a long drive and work on Monday won’t be put off. I’m all for a Saturday, myself.
Tony

Well, I suppose some folks will want to go to the Highland Games on Labor Day weekend, so maybe the following Saturday?

Let me get back home to check my calendar - I’ve got one weekend spoken for that month, but I’ll be there if I possibly can.

Dana

heh, heh. I just realized I’ll be on vacation in the second half of Sept. Therefore, Sept 1, 8, and 15 are the available Saturdays. Now, if Aug is not to restricted for you, Aug 18 and 25 could also be considered. Somehow, I’ll be on vacation in early Aug. as well. heh, heh. Not to rub it in. heh.
Tony

We’ll be on vacation most of August. We’ll have to be back in town for start of school, but I’m not sure at this moment when it will be.

In October (if it comes to that!), my main restriction will be the weekend of the Loch Lomond Highland Games. I’ve absolutely promised my harp teacher that I won’t schedule anything on that weekend, so I can play with Harpers Hall. Unfortunately, they haven’t posted the schedule for the games yet. They usually take place the first or second weekend of October.

We’ll do our best to make it…the baby absolutely HATES long car trips & tends to scream a lot, so we’ll see how he’s doing by then. We have some friends in Richmond who keep bugging us to come up there though so I guess we will have to do it sometime…

…the baby absolutely HATES long car trips & tends to scream a lot,

This, coming from someone who plays bagpipes??? What’s the difference?
Tony

Three months is a long time in a baby’s life. By September he may LOVE car rides…ya never know!

On the other hand, my daughter is 14, and STILL hates long car rides, though Nintendo, an iPod and a portable DVD player have proved to be better for curbing screaming jags than the pacifier, car gym and Cheerios did.

Sept 1 and 8 would work just fine for me. The 15th, probably not. Late August is up in the air.

But choose the weekend that works best for most people and I 'll be there if I can.

I just had this amazing, if not original idea. What say we formulate a tune list that everyone can join in on. I’ll make sure we play slowly enough that beginners get to play along. Here are some suggestions. Add your own.
Swallowtail Jig
Rd to Lisdoonvarna/O’Keefe’s Slide
Cooley’s Reel
Off to California/Fisher’s/Boys of Bluehill or whatever
…stuff that beginners or everyone knows. (Not that weird stuff you like to play, Weekender.)
Tony

Great idea!

My suggestions:

Lilting Banshee
Britches Full of Stitches
My Darling Asleep
Harvest Home

This discussion seems to be on hiatus … was a final date posted elsewhere?

Sign me, VERY interested!!

Cheers

You just missed it. It was great.

Just kidding. No, nothing is set. These slackers have been busy posting about their toenail polish and other important goings on.

How about Sept 8 just to throw a date out there?
Tony

Couldn’t remember what date I’d suggested; had to look it up. Anyway, there have been no objections (and a couple of approvals). Someone local to me has requested I do a whistle workshop for a slow session group of whistlers. I thought I might combine the events and host a slow session the same evening. (Style and grace vs speed.) :astonished: (Or maybe, neither…)
Tony

Why not?

I’d be up for the workshop myself - lord knows I’ve got enough areas I could stand to improve. Do you need a “how not to do it” example?

Do you need a “how not to do it” example?

That would be perfect. I’d just say ‘hit it,’ and you could launch into a fiasco. It would make the noobies feel better about themselves.
Tony

Well, I do get it right, occasionally. By accident, of course. :smiling_imp:

Bump for LeslieQ, who I saw at a party Saturday night. She had missed the parties in her area (at Dana’s) because she naughtily forgot to check here… She wants to come in September, even with the drive.

I checked and Tony suggested Sept. 8.
