I just found out the other day via the IrTrad-L of all places, that mp3.com
is pulling the plug. I went to look and its true, its going down on Tues
Dec2. Its the end of an era.
It was not all that long ago that they were just an indie place, a small
bunch of guys with a great idea and a lot of startup money I guess.
Things rapidly changed for the worse after they were sold but, when I
was first getting interested in The Music, they did a cd for my band, and I
got some free web pages up there. I also discovered by listening there,
that there were a lot of people trying to play this “sort of” music without
actually knowing how. After we dissolved the band, I stopped having
delusions of commercial success, and decided to just learn my instrument
instead. I put up a page of my own as an inspiration to play well and
work on things until they were “good enough” to be uploaded. Mp3.com
were there all the time I was learning to play the flute.
With the talk on the boards here about people posting their playing “out of
the closet” I decided to announce that you can hear mine
(www.mp3.com/lesl) until Tuesday when mp3.com is going dark. I
haven’t updated anything there for a while now - but there are 2 songs
with whistle and a set of slightly lopsided flute reels there:
The Song of Wandering Aengus at
http://artists.mp3s.com/artist_song/1344/1344610.html
The Limestone Rock/The Banshee at
http://artists.mp3s.com/artist_song/2163/2163041.html
and Ar Bhruach na Carraige Báine
http://artists.mp3s.com/artist_song/2933/2933647.html
So that’s all I wanted to say, I’ll miss mp3.com and it was fun while it lasted.
I hope the Americans on the board have a great Thanksgiving and everyone else a great “regular” day.
Cheers, Lesl
