OT: WARNING: Political/Potentially Offensive Thread

I see that the current estimates of voting in Iraq put the turnout at 57 % of those entitled to vote. Trouble is that seems to mean those registered to vote but not those entitled to register to vote.
A big difference, it seems.
It will be interesting to see if Bush’s assumption is correct.
I hope it is justified even if it came from one of his crystal balls.

I would suppose it to have been better to leave Sadam in power instead of helping Iraq get out from under his regime? What would you have had the world do instead? Barter with him, perhaps?

Well he has been using mystical methods to divine information available to nobody else !
It is the favoured bogus medium’s method.
Ask any old Gypsy fortuneteller ( in preference ).

I apologize, Andrew. I was putting a crass meaning on your use of “crystal balls.” I shouldn’t have sunk so low.
Susan

Don’t apologise. I am not a very pure type , as some may have noticed.
I like double entendres myself to lighten my boring little life.
If I were more fulfilled like those who live in Salt Lake City , say, I wouldn’t need to resort to the Chiff and Fipple Forum for a little childish amusement.
Anyway where does B. Bush get his secret information from ?
Same as Salt Lake City People, I suppose.

What the #(*&$???

Who says people in SLC are fulfilled? If there’s a group of fulfilled people in SLC, I haven’t seen or met them. I think you’re making some assumptions here.

I admitted it was childish, Andrew. There was no need for all the sarcasm.

Susan

Susan, you’ll find out that Andrew only mistreats those he loves. In fact, i’m beginning to think he’s getting fond of GWB and his crystal balls!

Is there any way we can introduce this Sunfx to Catfish ?
I suspect that the need for sarcasm may become overwhelming. That in itself can be fulfilling and cathartic.
In case it is any comfort to you Sxfssu your place of abode is just about the last place in the world I shall ever be likely to visit , with it’s screwed up residents (and correspondents ? )

All right, Andrew, I’ve had enough. You’re a zote and I’m going to send you a fruitcake at Christmastime. You’ve been warned!

A screwed up resident of SLC,
Susan

Now Andrew be careful and mind your dark side, Susan has been around for quite sometime and is more then a match for you. And anyway, why change the subject just when its getting interesting.
Ive been quitely reading this thread and am again impressed with Jims capasity to always be able to let the love in his heart shine through. I have way more then just mere respect for you Jim. In fact I envy your ability to be at peace within. I, on the other hand, cannot bring myself to trust anything about what we are doing in Iraq. I am reminded again of my experience as a combat marine back in the heady days of Viet Nam. I remember the headlines of Sept. 1967 about the free elections held in South Viet Nam and the lavish praises heeped apon all those brave souls who braved the threats and promises of the Viet Cong to vote. And how it was a turning point and a proof of the good we were doing there. I found myself two thousand meters from the DMZ about a year later to spend my 13 month tour in country. I think you know where this is going so I wont bore you or anyone else with my thoughts of that period of my life. I would just like you to remember how similar these conflict are. Of course there are huge differences but the similarities are uncanny. I also feel our memories seem stumpted even in the short term. You know that about one and a half million Iraqis died from 1991 until our invasion just from santions. Add to that the one hundred thousand that have died since and the price for our resource stabilization program comes at quite a price. That of course doesnt include the 1500 or so service people that have died or the 11000 or so injured. No I dont have much faith in this round of elections nore do I believe the reports we are getting as to the outcome. And have you been keeping up with the latest laws instigated by the US on the people of Iraq. One caught my attention because it limits one of the oldest agricultural systems in the world to the use of geniticaly modified seed. Yes it is now elegal for the Iraqi farmer to keep seeds from his crops. All seed must be bought from the Tranactional agribusiness corporations we know as Monsanto or DOW. How about that. The law is to be for a period of 20 years.
Now what we are doing in Iraq is not all that is wrong. What we are doing to ourselves is just as outragous. Guantanamo did not go away, torter did not go away, it is alive and well. What does this say about us. Can we realy be that detached from reality. It would seem so. I wish I could have your optamisum(hell I wish I could spell too) Jim but I still see nothing but lies and myths and an unlaudable universal attempt by the people of my country to do what ever it takes to obsolve themselves from the responsability of their actions. We are involved in dangerous business and there is no end in sight.

Take care;

Tom

I want my fruitcake NOW !!!
Good post Blackbeer. Nice to know someone feels like I do.
Didn’t know about Monsanto. Only good thing about the EEC is it’s trying to keep genetically modified crops out for the time being.
I am going to have a brass plate cast tomorrow with ZOTE HOUSE on it with a view to re- naming the house I live in.
Nobody in the civilised world ( England ) will understand what it means, but that won’t matter. The postman will find me.

Amen.

Good post, Tom! (Hope you’re well - and the critters, too)

Susan

Tom, much appreciate your kind words.

Andrew, Susan is an independent minded
intelligent and literate person, who probably shares
your views on lots of things, if not quite
to the extent that you hold them.
In case you haven’t realized it,
you and she are fated to be friends.

I don’t know if I am ready for zotephile friends, what with the police looking for things on people’s computers and the like ! ( And how would I get the average plod to understand an interest in old flutes, I ask you ? I can’t understand it myself. It is perverted ! ).
I have just realised that there has been no sarcasm used yet. Shame really.

Great post Tom. All of our generation has been scarred by Viet Nam.
I can understand how Americans could re-elect Bush even after the deliberate lies about Iraqi weapons and ties to al-Qaeda, the devastating impact of the war, and the terrible state of the American economy. Americans swallow lies as easily as candy. We have been conditioned by advertising into accepting the rhetoric of corporations and politicians, both of whom promise cures for our woes that turn out to be nothing but sugar pills.
While there are ‘good’ Americans, a large proportion of my countrymen are greedy, horny, and stupid. America is indeed the center of the evil empire. Unfortunately, a serious discussion of alternate approaches to political problems is nearly impossible. It is possible that democracy is not the best form of government for Iraq and Afghanistan at this time. On the other hand, nobody seriously thinks there is democracy in those countries. Or in America, for that matter.
I would go on, but I am frightened at the thought of who else is monitoring this relatively harmless forum.

Hmm…perhaps Jim is the one with the crystal balls.

Okay, end of off-topic posts. I will henceforth only add enlightening, thoughtful, helpful posts to this thread.

(Cocus, if you really want to hide out here, you might want to reconsider hitting “submit” three times - I’ve heard They watch for those things.)

Susan

Hmm…perhaps Jim is the one with the crystal balls. [wink]

Shucks.
