My Luna cat was sleeping on my lap with her belly against mine, and when the baby kicked, Luna opened her eyes. Dan hasn’t been able to feel it yet, but he did SEE some movement yesterday. I’d had a prenatal massage and the baby was dancing up a storm. One of these days, he’ll feel it. It’ll be 19 weeks on Wednesday, and we’ll find out that day what it is (looking forward to 3-D sonogram)!
That’s so fun! Always loved when Jordyn kicked. He was very active baby. Felt him moving around quite early. This time around is quite different. Still waiting to feel this one move for sure. Funny how their little personalities vary, even before being born.
By the way, what is prenatal massage? First thing that popped to mind was somehow massaging the baby, but that doesn’t make much sense to my brain after thinking about it. But then you said the baby was moving like crazy so…
Tony, without that white pixel, Dan looks dull, or like he’s not looking at the camera. I did a different retouch. I turned the white pixel to gray. What do you think of it now?
Glad you like the avatar, Peter.
Sara, prenatal massage is massage for pregnant women. The pregnant woman is on one side (and later, the other) propped up comfortably with pillows. It’s a gentle massage, and certain possibly-labor-inducing spots are avoided. Massage therapists have to be specially trained to work on pregnant women.
Bloomfield, with all the purring my Luna and Sola have been doing around my belly area, I think the baby may think it’s a cat!
Good job Jessie.
I know what you mean about the small picture having changed. I used to keep an old version of Photoshop just for picture reduction. The compression algorhythm that software seemed to do a nicer job with less distortion.
Hi Jessie,
thanks for sharing that, It’s got me thinking about when my wife was pregnant, I used to be fascinated watching the baby move, it always seemed to happen at the same time every night. I wasn’t too sure if I liked to feel the kicks but I always tried again just to be sure We opted not to know whether the baby was a boy or girl, everyone said oh it’s going to be a boy, based on “old wives tales” I suppose, guess what, it was a girl, Emma-Louise was 5, August past, plenty of trouble but lots of fun Hope everything goes well for you.
Isn’t that fun? I remember when I was carrying Johanna (who was a very active baby, and is still a very active 10-year-old), my dog would be sleeping in my lap and all of a sudden give a little jump and glare at my belly. It was priceless! I don’t think Tony ever got to feel her kick, though…as soon as he’d put his hand on my belly, she’d decide to go to sleep.
Sonograms are fun, but don’t put too much stock in what they tell you about the sex of the baby. I’ve had more friends paint the nursery pink or blue based on a sonogram, only to get a real surprise when junior put in an appearance. My aunt’s technician told her “for sure” she was having a boy, even pointing out the relevant “equipment.” When little Benita was born, it became clear that what they’d thought was…well…it was a part of the umbilical cord! The only way to be 100% sure of the baby’s sex is to have an amnio.
It is cool to have the pictures, though. We have Jo’s sonogram in her baby book under “first picture.” She loves to look at it.
Yeah, there are lots of different ideas about that. That’s what makes the world go 'round. I couldn’t imagine NOT wanting to find out as soon as safely possible. It will help me to bond with the fetus and to pick a name, to visualize a future. You might think that’s why it isn’t a good idea - because something terrible could happen, like the baby could die at birth and I’d be that much more attached to it if I knew the gender and had a name picked out, but I think that not knowing in order to not get as attached would be like not wanting to live because you have to die at the end.
I wish this would hurry up and scroll off the front page (oops, guess I didn’t help there) – every time I see the thread title in the forum list I get “Cat Scratch Fever” stuck in my head!
Now, I’ve shared and you can all get the same vibe going on, maybe Jessie will change the title
Make sure Dan gets ample time feeling the baby kick. It’s one of the highlights for Dads during the pregnancy. You can also get a heartbeat monitor from many maternity shops. It looks a lot like a Walkman. You put the headsets on, put the receiver to your belly, and you can hear your baby’s heartbeat. VERY COOL!!!
When my wife, Julie, was expecting Caitlin, our cat Oscar was sitting on her lap. (We called Caitlin Kicky before she was born and for good reason). Caitlin kicked Oscar right of Julie’s lap. That was the begining of a 4+ year torment of Oscar by Caitlin!
Since I’m also a fifer in a fife and drum corps, Julie had come to a few parades while she was pregnant. Every time the bass drums went by “Kicky” would go into full swing. Caitlin still love the bass drums and wants to learn how to play. She also wants to play the Bohdran.
Julie and I are going to set some time aside after the Holidays to go through baby clothes. You should look for a package sometime after the New Year.
