OT- for those going to see CTL in East Hartford

Tyghress, Robin & any other Chiffsters going to the CTL concert Thursday evening in East Hartford.

I’m definitely still planning on attending. If anyone wants to meet just to say hello- say around 6:15, or so, I’ll try to hang out by what I can only describe as something that looks to me like “a large log sticking out of life preserver”- of course, it is probably some piece of highly respected modern art, but just “calling it as I see it.” :boggle: You’ll definitely notice what I’m talking about, as the Town Green isn’t all that large, and the artowrk is pretty centrally located, reasonably near the stage. I’ll be wearing a University of Maryland ball cap, am “not tall” and have glasses.

Otherwise, my wife and I will be sitting in black fabric lawn chairs. Stop by and say hello.

If anyone needs details on how to get there, let me know, or see the earlier thread on this concert.

Save a space for me, Tom! I’ll be there with my chair.
You’ll know me…
Eight feet long from whisker twitch to tail tip, auburn black and cream.

well, not exactly

but you will know me. . . . :stuck_out_tongue:

Tyghress: OK, see you there.

You can easily find each other if you bring whistles and play them… re: our CTL parking lot jam in Oklahoma.

Well, we’re going to do our best to get there! We’ll probably be late (this is normal), tall skinny white woman with glasses, a pink windbreaker, a big bearded Indian guy, and two little kids, probably looking lost. The kids will probably be running all over the place with us struggling to keep up…we’re kind of hard to miss. If you all can try to save enough space for a couple of lawn chairs, we’ll try to fill it (of course, after that description, you may want to stay incognito)!

Robin

I was there, too! I think I was off to one side playing guitar, and Mrs. BB and Mrs. John N were on the other side discussing who-knows-what (probably my own and John’s music obsessions).

I guess as much as we love our Ladies, we can’t help but like each other, too!

Rain location is in the community center…wherever THAT is. The number for information is: 860-522-9275

Rain . . . imagine that.

Robin: OK, we’ll try to save space if we can- no clue how many folks show up at these things in East Hartford. Not sure you are using the directions that I sent in the other post, but if you do- when you turn LEFT, I MEAN LEFT, NOT RIGHT, onto Main Street from Burnside, the Town Green will be just down on the right. There are a couple of rows of parking right as you go through the “entrance” and then there is a larger lot behind the Green

Tyghress- The community center is adjacent to the Town Green.

All the Best, Tom

Edited because I can’t tell my left from my right…Sorry, sorry, sorry.

Bumping this only to bring attention to the edit to my directions, should anybody be relying on them.

Tom

Just a note to tell all that Tom, Robin and I managed to meet up at the tremendous CTL concert, despite the rain.

CTL was joined by John Nolan (honorary ‘Lady’ for the night) on the button accordion, and Keara Sullivan (daughter of a friend) and Michael Boyle dancing. Musical genius of the Ladies not withstanding, I think these two young adults were the highlight of the evening. Keara’s slip jig, and the pair doing some really amazing footwork on a hornpipe, were spectacular.

Joanie was an affable, humorous emcee. She played Boehm flute, a number of O’Riordans, and a Burke, and has a very pleasant contralto voice. The newest vocalist for the group, Heidi Talbot, is truly superb and will no doubt have a wonderful solo career.

It is amazing that such a concert was offered by the town for free, and that there wasn’t a crowd pressing to get in (indoors due to rain). Also, I want to say that it was very cool to meet two more Chiffers!

I have to echo Tyghress’s impressions. The music was excellent and the dancers were superb. It was also great to meet Tyghress and Robin in person. Tyghress, I’ll definitely come out to the Hartford Steam to listen to some great music.

Now, on an unrelated note, please hope for the sun to come out soon, because in a few hours my wife and I are off to Cape Cod for the weekend.

All the Best, Tom

What a great concert! And of course a pleasure to meet Tyghress and Tom!

My daughter and I got there about 15 minutes late and I thought for sure we would have to stand at the back, but there were plenty of seats to choose from, and we got pretty close to the front. The dancing was great (especially the young woman), and the singer was really stupendous; she’s got quite a career ahead of her. Joanie sounds just as good in person as she does on her albums; I was frankly surprised to hear the same great sound coming out of a “live” whistle without recording modifications. The audience was really enthusiastic, even though I got the impression that a large portion didn’t realize how famous CTL is (the lady sitting next to me, when she found out I had traveled down from Massachusetts said, “Oh, do you know one of them?” referring to the musicians!). It was a real treat to get to see them, and for FREE!! If they come back again next year (and I think they might from a comment that Joanie dropped), we will definitely be returning; hopefully it can be outside in the park at sunset, that would make it even better!
