Don’t know if it’s true or not, but I recall a story set in Japan during the US occupation (odd: seems to be a fair bit of that, doesn’t there?), and fodder for the “Engrish” website if ever there was any:
General Douglas MacArthur was held up as a possible candidate for the US presidency. I don’t recall if he was actually running, but there were those at least who favored him, and a big banner was displayed in Tokyo, I think it was, that said, “We Pray for MacArthur’s Erection”.
