In looking into makers over the past few years, there are certainly more players in this field than I ever expected. In trying to do a LOT more homework this time than when I got my penny chanter groan, I’m wondering what the general concensus is on Davy’s work.
Anyone own one of his sets? Played his sets? Know him and his buisness practices? Pro’s and con’s? I’m not really interested in ‘this maker or that is better for such and such reasons’ all that much, just some experienced opinions on the one for now.
I’m also interested in recent opinions as well as what I’ve found in the archives. Yes…I DID in fact look there too. Interesting, though I was curious to know if anyone had anything to add now as well. Thanks for trying though!
I think Jeff (anima) got a DS chanter since we last went round and round. I think I remember him saying his other reeds worked fine in it too, and it sounded good…something along those lines. You can email him for details.
D. Stephenson’s chanter tops look they have a thyroid disorder. Or maybe he eats a lot of rutabagas?
Pretty nice stuff, he seems a bit cocky maybe. Bagpipeworks, sounds like Kruppwerks or Kraftwerk maybe
Actually..those chanter tops are a copy of chanter tops done by Coyne. I can send you a pic of an old boxwood coyne set in B that uses this style chanter top.
I’ve not long been off the phone to Davy, he asked me to pass on:
He’s been ill for a while, and is therefore a few weeks behind on work.
-His computer is officially dead as a doornail - he does read his email, but only on an irregular basis and attempting to communicate by it is a non-starter. He doesn’t plan for this situation to change; his website will be updated at some point to reflect this.
-What with the back-log of orders, he’s not taking on new orders for the moment - he wants to clear his current backlog to the point where he can provide accurate waiting time estimates for new orders.
-With the computer dying, he’s lost one or two people’s contact info, as in completely lost. If you were expecting contact from him regarding stuff in the works, it might be an idea to give him a buzz and make sure it’s not you.
Sorry for my poor English,I can’t understnd the following sentences.
Can please someone tell what this mean in a simple English?
“he does read his email, but only on an irregular basis and attempting to communicateby it is a non-starter. He doesn’t plan for this situation to change”
I’m reading this Bord with a dictionary in my hand. A word lively spoken is very difficult for a non native people, and this is a very good chance to
study English!
I’m now ordering a C chanter, and sending him my chanter for adding
keys, and we were jusy talking about a order for a set of drones.
The one reason I chosed his pipes was because he always kindly and immediately replyed to my e-mail.
I musy go back to the most tradoitonal way.It takes a looong time from here to reach him
