Jim, any comments about this publication? Good? Bad? Apathetic?
Tunes of the Munster Pipers is an NPU publication and available from them for 19€, which is about US$24.40, so the eBay current price of US$18.95 is not bad. Lots of tunes you never heard of before, collected by a UPiper from UPipers.

There’s some great tunes and mostly needs ‘interpretation’ (meaning: place your own ornamentations etc.,). I like it like that.
An absolutely great book. Breandan Breathnach had wanted to publish the Goodman collection himself but the project went to Hugh Shields after Breandan passed away in 1985.
I vaguely recall a show Mick O’Brien did on RTÉ 1 that featured a bunch of tunes from this book. Can’t rememebr the name of the show now … ![]()

Can’t remember the name of that show either, but the sequel was definitely called “Revenge of the Monster Pipers” ![]()

The show was, interestingly enough, called “Tunes Of the Munster Pipers”, broadcast by RTE a few years back. Mick O’Brien and others were recorded playing a slew of the tunes found in the Goodman collection. A lot of these obscure and seldom heard (if ever before heard) tunes are absolutely fantastic! Here’s the link to Mr’ D’Arcy’s site where you can find the program under the Late Session which aired on 2/2/03. Enjoy.

Good eye, Mikey! I knew if I mentioned it someone would find it for me. ![]()
I see that RTÉ 1 has done a second summer series of The Bloom of Youth. This year includes appearances by Cormac Cannon and Mikey Smith. Fr. Pat will have to get busy once again. ![]()
