NPU website upgraded

Just had a look at the new upgraded NPU website http://www.pipers.ie

I can now watch all the pipemaking videos including my pipemaker Andreas Rogge but first you need to me a member and login.

Cheers

Fergus

Its a little early for an April fools prank.

RORY

It looks very good  nice upgrade.

I think it will take a little getting used to. I was so familiar with the old website.

I agree, but now you have to be a standard member to listen to Listen those recordings now.

   :swear: :swear: :swear: :tantrum:

O well, it says though, that with a premium account there are thousands of recordings of Ennis, Clancy, Reck, Etc… Which is cool!

You can’t watch many of the Source videos now, they were all free before. They’re categorized now which is handy, but you still have all of that “Show 12/24/36/48 videos per page” rubbish to deal with, which you have to set with every visit. Much of the change seems purely cosmetic.

I can view the 1990 Tony MacMahon stuff without logging in so some of it is still open to non-subscribers. But you have no way of telling without attempting to open any given video…

I search for ‘Tommy Reck’ in Source and nothing comes up, even though the videos are still there. On any given page the link to the page you’re on is still active at the bottom, instead of being a grayed out non-link as it should be, this is basic web design stuff here.

Their CD store is awful now - you have to go through hundreds of pages to come across a given artist who you might take a fancy to, before they had all the artists in a list which was much more handy.

So, much to fix. Do they really have thousands of clips of audio? I only see the Ennis/Clancy/McAloon/Conroy recordings they’ve always had, plus a few more. If I could have a crisp sounding version of the Tommy Reck home recordings I’d subscribe for that alone.

You’re right, Kevin. The store is a complete shambles. What on earth were they thinking?

The website was much easier to navigate, before.

I can’t find or even look at the pictures of the pipers sets anymore either. :frowning:

Bah. They could at least have implemented a filter to show the remaining free stuff only. :frowning:

Any release date on the Moving Cloud app? Is is specifically irish for now or will there be an international release ?

I like the rebranding, website is much easier to navigate, pity about the CDs.

New An Piobaire looks great.

I have some issues with the new site, but not having to pay!

The site is more clunky - may be released a bit early, but I am no wizz at these things. The front page text on my browser is scrambled; text ove runnig itself.

The NPU is not a department of the Irish Government, though it does receive large grants to do what it does. Compared to a golf club membership, or other equivalent, you get a LOT for your euro 50.00. Elsewhere, all pleasures have to be paid for. Cough up! With more funds, the NPU could do more. You get what you pay for, and in life generally if you pays nowt, you get nowt! Or another way, use it or loose it.

Pwrt

could someone tell me if Pauline mcglynn (mrs doyle in fr ted) is doing the commentary on this page?

“What would you say to a nice set of uilleann pipes, Father?”

Bob

Is that Sheila Freil playing on them?

Wow, that’s a bad case of the uglies… Sad to see the old classy looking site gone.

On a tangentially-related note, has anyone successfully bought anything off of the ITMA web site lately? Tried to buy Volume 2 of “Tunes of the Munster Pipers” but it won’t add it to my shopping cart. I tried two different browsers with the same results. I’ll post this same question in on the ITM sub-forum here also.

I have - and there was a problem with the check-out, so I happened to buy the same things twice…
Yesterday I received a mail from Emmett that the money for the second buy had been refunded to my credit card, so everything went out alright.

I wouldn’t say so. Sounds more like Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh to my ear.

Munster Pipers Vol 2 caught my eye for a second, then I noticed the $120 price tag. :astonished: Or is it “only” $100, or $140? Way too much for a tunebook in any case.

The Book is €25 for the paperback and €35 for the hardbackversion. Which isn’t excessive.
