Who is the piper featured on “LP IRISH MUSIC Comhaltas 1986 Pipes Flute etc”?

Eamonn Walshe: The Flax in Bloom/O’Mahony’s; Matt Kiernan’s Favourite/Cherish the Ladies

A copy of Comhaltas Tour 1980 – A Glimpse of the Real Ireland LP is also on Ebay, I’ve had this for a long time and am rather fond of it. Has a pipes solo from Sean McMahon, Miss McGuinnes/Corney is Coming (Tommy Reck medley there), played on a grumbly flat set of some sort. Very good piper, wonder what’s become of him since.

Wait a minute, who’s this dude then? That’s back in the day.
Me want!

He got the first Wooff B set in Ireland in 1983, recorded with Fisherstreet (with his brother Seamus and others), is working for the Revenue commisioners (in other words the Taxman) is playing, although is seen a lot as a concertinaplayer.

Before John got the Woofe B set he had a B flat set from Alan Ginsberg. He tried to sell me the Ginsberg before he bought the Woofe.

He played on a early ‘Pure Drop’ program (or whatever it was called back then) and he played ‘Bean an Tinceara’. The first time that I heard that tune.

John Moran

There was a snatch from the early 80s on Come West last year of himself and Seamus playing, from the same program Paddy Keenan and one of the brothers were featured as well.

John gave me 1st place when he judged me in the fleadh in 1988. I think it was in kilkenny. I’d like to think that he know’s his stuff
Only coddin,
whatever his opinions of 16 year old’s who may just own an instrument
I would regard him as very fine piper, very under-rated in fact!!
Not too shaby on the concertina either…!!!

recorded with Fisherstreet

Still one of the best group recordings, ever… my favourite anyway.

Wait a minute, who’s this dude then?

Looks like a young Sean Seery .

The pipes on the cover look like O’Meally’s work.

Regards,

H.
