These next series of photos are a source of great pride and envy for me. My wife set a goal, and saw it through without so much as batting an eye. I am extremely proud of her and just a little envious (I’m too fat to tandem jump ).
Laurie and her friends before boarding. Laurie is the one in the middle standing.
I’m just insane enough to disagree with that narrow-minded sentiment about “why would anyone jump out of a perfectly good airplane,” so I think Laurie totally rocks! Your pride in her is sweet (and your envy understandable). Good on you both.
You know, we have to be grownups and deal with the software bowdlerizing our cusswords, but it seems a shame that it spits out prefixes and suffixes too (such as -less), so what’s left is not only robbed of colloquial richness, but ungrammatical, too.
Funny as it sounds, Laurie is terrified of heights. But she said that at 15,000 feet, it doesn’t feel or look the same as say peeking over the edge of a 5 story building.
emm, they’re all standing???
I had a friend of mine do her first jump way back in the 80s and she did it sucessfully. She tucked and rolled (or what ever they do upon landing) gathered her chute and promptly steped in a gopher hole, twisted her ankle and had to have a cast. Needless to say, there were some sharp words when she told her mom what she was doing.
Ive done a static line jump which are quite bloody scary too. they are quite a good way to raise money for charity, i ended up raising around 700 irish punts in sponsorship about ten years ago for the national council for the blind. Great fun!
I started hang-gliding many years ago, but I didn’t have a vehicle at the time (required for leaving at a moment’s notice when the wind is right) and there’s just too few hills of sufficient size in this area. Its a gas, requires no strength, just speed and a very light touch. Go for it, Joe, and have a ball.
Yeah, it certainly is irresistable. Though, around here, there really isn’t any place to jump off from, but there is a small airport to the east (10 miles or so) where they tow you up behind a Piper Cub. That’s gotta be a rush.
