Odd-looking Feadóg on Ebay

I wrote and told the seller that I had asked about this whistle on an Irish Whistle board and think I generated some interest for him. I also asked the history of the whistle. He wrote me back this humorous reply:

Kim, you have generated more interest in this item then I could imagine! Thank you!

I am sorry that I don’t know the history of this item. I went to a local garage sale Friday, it caught my eye and I picked it up. It looks like it was never used, and I thought there might be a buyer on eBay. When I searched eBay, I did not expect to get much for it, maybe enough for my
gasoline and purchase price.

When I saw the hit counter and price this morning I was shocked! When I checked at Noon I could not believe my eyes!

I am so glad you wrote back to explain thanks again!

Too funny!

Kim

It’s now up to $28.

I guess somebody thinks it must be a pretty good whistle.

It it wouldn’t get me skint, I’d be tempted, just to satisfy curiosity!

(If you don’t know what “skint” is, well, trust me, it ain’t pleasant!)

Best wishes to all,

It’s a McCullogh Piggott. You can tell by the stickers top and bottom. Highly recommended! I have two or three and they’re hands down the best (proto-) Feadogs you can get. But they are almost impossible to get nowadays.

Reckon how many of these you could have once gotten from McCullough, for the price this one is going for now?

I hope we hear more about it though…this has been a lot of fun for me to watch.

Kim, you should get a commission!

Well, any way you look at it somebody’s getting a rather expensive Feadog. I hope someone secretly plated it with gold or something

How come on those rare occasions that I list something on eBay nobody ever bids three times what it’s worth?!

Bad karma, I guess.

Up to 32 bucks now, less than a day left.

Be interesting to see what the closing price on this puppy will be.

When spouses get that pinkish tint
You know ere long you will be skint.
The secret is to be discrete
and not reveal your Ebay treat.
It’s nice to have some hidden cash
For Ebay’s much forbidden trash.

If it’s not on Ebay, it doesn’t exist.

Clandestine late night Ebay buys,
long after she had closed her eyes.
Keyboard tit-tat in the dark,
clicking “Buy it Now” on a lark.

Alas, my mate has found my stash,
Of things bought with secret cash.
I can no longer spend a dime,
no more snipes at closing time.

Closing the door on my Ebay life,
just a “Suggestion” by my wife.
Another way must I quench my thirst,
Just 'cause she got to the mailbox first.

It went for $36.

I think I know what skint means.

Does it start out with something like, “How many fifes does one person need? How many can you play at one time?” Then work its way up through a discussion of the kids’ college funds and end with the fifer feeling as if he now had two rectums?

Yep, that’s it exactly!

Except I find it usually starts with:

“Another whistle! What in the world do you need ANOTHER whistle for?!?” and goes on from there.

$36! Incredible.

Love the poetry!

Now if that person that won is on this board, would they please step forward and tell us about this whistle?

I’ll give this a day or two, then I’m emailing the person asking what they liked about the whistle…

Know exactly what you mean! My wife is a crocheter and has more yarn and hooks than anyone could ever use in two lifetimes!! Yet she scolds me every time I ask for or buy another whistle…

A feadog that looks like the one in the previous auction, except with significant rust damage, is up on ebay:

And in the same picture with a couple of recorders!!!
