I am about to list a Wilkes keyless flute on ebay – check there in the next day or so if interested…
How much do you want for the flute?
You may get what you want here as Wilkes’ flutes rarely come up for sale
What’s the reason for selling it if i may ask..?
-I have not made a final decision about how much to ask for the flute.
-I am selling it because at this moment in time, I’d rather have the money than the flute… ![]()
-What would be the advantage of attempting to sell it here versus ebay? This is a lovely flute. I would prefer a clean and easy sale – not a bunch of dickering back and forth.
-Is there a way to post photos here?
you can link to photos, they must be hosted elsewhere.
there’s also Used Instruments Exchange
Yes, eBay is easier. There would be a lot of interest here for a flute like that but you’d spend a lot of time answering emails and dealing with questions. Questions on this board often turn into bickering, backbiting and begrudging. The eBay route is cleaner though you may have to pay a bit for eBay fees and Paypal.
I seem to remember you using the UIE…
FWIW, I haven’t had any problems buying or selling flutes that were listed on the flute forum, and it’s nice not having to pay a listing fee or final evaluation fee
I have both bought and sold here and have generally had good luck. But recent posts accompanying the sales of Ben’s Bb Grinter and the resale of Rama’s Olwell left me with a bad taste. Two bad tastes.
ah, the Flute forum does provide a vehicle for 'em, dun’it…
I suppose we all have different experiences but I regularly buy and sell whistles and flutes both on the C&F forum and eBay and I much prefer doing it here. I am bothered by having to weed through the intentional misinformation and lack of trust with eBay sellers where I’ve been disappointed a few times.
I much prefer to buy or sell here on an open forum where we “know” each other. But then I have never experienced much back and forth on items I’ve bought or sold here so perhaps I’ve been lucky.
Sorry your experience has been less than that.

if for no other reason than ease of posting the photos, I will list the flute on ebay for auction and probably with a ‘buy it now’ price. I will post good photos and provide what information I can about the flute there. I will then put a post here so that anyone that cares to can go to ebay and view the listing and/or purchase the flute.
thanks to all that have provided insight.
Ebay will hit you for some serious fees, the final settlement amount will be quite high, depending on the age of your Wilkes i’m guessing your buy it now will be quite high? its lucky i’m skint ![]()
Yeah, if you are going to decide on a Buy It Now/asking price, better, IMO, to dangle it here for a while first - you might well make a sale without any fees (except for any international money transfer costs, which should be for the buyer to cover) - would save you a good deal! If it doesn’t shift here in say 10 days, then eBay it. You’ve nothing to lose by that! Uploading photos to display here is no harder than doing them for eBay - just open a Photobucket account or similar - that’s free and it would probably be well worth the small effort to learn how! (We’ll help if you’re stuck!)
If you really must put it straight on eBay, I’d advise against a Buy It Now, at least for a first listing - it limits how far folk might go! Just go for a straight, open-ended auction, maybe with a reserve.
For the record, I’m not in the market for a keyless flute, even for a Wilkes and even if I had the money!
Jem, you give such good advice.
You’re very excitable, Jem! Have you been into that ‘special’ coffee again!
Mr. Easy, me, caffeine and all… What are you seeing that I didn’t intend?
You were rather exclamatory in your previous post, is all …
! ! ! ! !
7 sentences, 5 !s… Mmmm.
I must cut back…
Anyway, that’s only a 71.43% hit-rate - yours in your last-but-one post (even allowing for ironic intent and the possibility the 2nd should be a “?”…) is 100%.
But I’d say “emphatic” rather than “excitable” - it was late, I was tired and rushing…
Enough of this nonsense… the OP has a flute to sell!

Just a wind-up then? Seven days have passed by ![]()
