Would be greatful to receive notation (dots) for Ave Maria. BTW, I have done the search feature and came up with negative results. Anyone give me a hand? Thanks in advance.
There are two commonly played songs that go by that title, by different composers. They are nothing alike, so if you’re playing for someone else, make sure you have the correct tune. I think Shubert is the more common.
I should think there must be thousands of settings of Ave Maria, many of which are “common”, including ones by Bach, Bruckner, Brahms, Verdi and various pop versions, incuding for instance, one by Pink.
Hmmm … yep, you’ll have to narrow it down.
Funny you should mention Ave Maria—friend of mine just came over and sang it for me and my family. one of the greatest songs of all time, methinks.
The suspense is killing me. Which one?
I’m looking for Shubert’s piece, which I think he wrote circa 1825 (something about Lady of the Lake as I recall—that was the original title or something near to that). At any rate that would be the notation I’m after.
As someone who used to sell a lot of sheet music to wedding musicians … I’d say the Schubert and Bach/Gounod settings blow the rest out of the water on the Top of the Wedding Pops, about neck and neck. No contest with the rest.
But I predict that Pussy Riot’s “Santa Maria” hymn will become the new wedding hit of the millennium!
wikifonia.com it’s free to register and no pop-ups or e mails or stuff. they have lots of songs. i enjoy the site.
whose wedding are you doing?

Maybe no-one’s (perhaps it’s for a remake of Fantasia)?
Thanks folks, I think I got it
Not doing a wedding this time, I just enjoy the music.
I just dodged this wedding bullet a month ago myself. We went with Paul Stookey’s “There is Love”. We had to blow the dust off the sheet music. I don’t think anyone had heard that song, even us, since the 1980’s.
I WILL NOT ask “why not”.

Franz Schubert or J.S. Bach/Charles Gounod? Of the two, the Bach-Gounod is my favorite on the flute. Jeanne-Pierre Rampal did a lovely recording of it back in the late 70s/early 80s, I think.
Do you need the piano/organ accompaniments or just the melody line? You should be able to find full versions of either on sheetmusicplus.com.
Here you go:
Bach/Gounod:

Here are a few of the Franz Schubert options:

Skim reading, Cathy? (For out-of-copyright/public domain music I’d always try the IMSLP/Petrucci Music Library first!)

Whoops, sorry. I was indeed. Fast-moving world, this. Anyway, the stuff at the links I included is downloadable for a reasonable price and flute-friendly settings are available, so it’s a quick solution in at least that respect! Then again, I also do the drive-thru occasionally and enjoy it ![]()
Thanks for the IMSLP/Petrucci link. I look forward to spending some time there in the future.
